bcddjjsc690,
That's pretty scary... Did you make him the scotch, "Honey?"
My point, was actually different. The "original" was, and is, a serious look at prejudice and racism and how even those who claim to have no prejudices react different when forced into a situation they had not considered. Poitier's character was perfect! A doctor with an incredible reputation and resume. A widower who lost his family in a car accident. The most hilarious scene is when Spencer Tracy is hearing the credentials on this man who intends on marrying his daughter and cuts his assistant off because he has heard enough. The only reason to deny this man went against everything they had taught their daughter about equality. An excellent film. (Actually, I would have wondered why they were engaged after only knowing each other a week, but that's me.)
In this so-called "remake," it seems to me that they go for cheap laughs and juvenile humor. It's more about making fun of people and fart jokes. Maybe it's a fine movie, but when you title it after [/i]Guess Who's Coming To Dinner?[/i] it can only pale in comparison. Also I never thought that white kid was any good, and Bernie Mac, while fine in his show and in many other things, is overrated. How many times can you play slight variations on the same role anyway?
PS... This white character seems to me to be a slight variation of every white character on the primarily black shows on WB. These guys seem to be doing very well just to walk across the floor without tripping over their own feet. To me, they are about as bad a stereotype as as the "Yas'm boss, I sho' is hungry!" black characters in old movies...
