I know they don't look much alike but look what they did with that chic in the film "Monster" based on that female serial killer--they made her look just like that lady! I'm sure the make-up experts in Hollywood could do the same for Sam

P.S. you know what else Nick? I bet if Sam did get the part, he'd put on disguises and go do Open Mics at comedy clubs, bar rooms etc. just to get a feel for what it's like for a Stand Up Comedian on stage. Samuel L. is that dedicated to the craft

I love Sam Jackson too but I wonder if he'd be able to get the feel of Mr.P, his mannerisms and expressions. Particularly regarding the standup.

Along the lines of the Spalding Grey thread, anyone else seen True Stories by David Byrne?

I like Sam Jackson a lot, but when it comes to playing Pryor's part, I think it'd be a lot better to have someone more unfamiliar or even unknown, rather than a famous actor or comedian....So that the focus is on Pryor and his story. I think a famous actor/comedian would take away from that.

Oh yeah, and on the topic of offbeat movies...anyone ever seen Gummo?

Off beat means one name to me. David Lynch. The Lost Highway? Mullholland Drive? I would like to know the drugs he uses to come up with this stuff so that I can take them to understand it.

If you have any doubt Angie, watch hime in [/i]A Time To Kill[/i] the most riveting scene in the movie is when his character is looking through the crack in the door while hiding inside the court house waiting for those SICK DISGUSTING pricks who raped his little 9 year old girl to come out! Samuel L. doesn't say a word of dialouge but his eyes tell us exactly what his character is thinking--oh it's SOOOOOO POWERFUL to watch!

And who can forget Samuel L. portrayal of "Gator" in Spike Lee's [/i]Jungle Fever[/i]? It's yet another powerful example of how excellent Samuel can speak without saying a word. The most phenominal part of that film is that he had just finished a rehab stay for his crack addiction. His counselor was afraid the part may cause Samuel to relapse but it did just the opposite, it made him NOT want to pick that shit up all the more. This yet another reason I'd like to see him play Mr. Pryor--he's strong just like him

I agree with your reasons about not having a comedian play Mr. Pryor on the silver screen but I don't agree with them when it comes to a well known actor like Samuel L. playing him because whoever plays him must have the deepth Mr. Pryor has, he must be able to feel emotions as strongly as Mr. Pryor feels them etc.

I doubt you can get that with a younger actor-not just b/c the younger actor doesn't have the stage experience but b/c he wouldn't have the life experience.

Just my thoughts, these and a buck will get you a cup of coffee
