tamra,
I am so happy to hear that your father is ok. Have his pets been rescued? We have located some family members and the cat! I may post what took place on another forum. Once again, I happy your father is ok!

dang forgot to login

I called a couple of *animal rescue* places listed on CNN and donated to a couple of animal rescue groups. one is ifaw.org and the other I can't remember name because I was so overwhelmed by all the things they do for pets in tragedies.

but they have my father's address and the names of his pets. the kittens I don't think are gonna make it. they swam wherever my father swam to try and find a safe place.

what pisses me off so much (HERE COMES MY RANT!!!) this was known as a possibility to happen for over 25 years and known of for over 200 years, but funding for levees was continually put off, including as recent as 2002 by several congressmen claiming levee funding in New Orleans was a waste of money. yet so much OIL AND NATURAL RESOURCES flow from that area. now it will cost over $200 billion to fix the disaster and more. Holland has areas below sea level, but they wouldn't have this problem with failures on all levels in the event of a disaster like this.

and if my marijuana plant got destroyed in that water, lawd, geeshus, help everybody, because I'm about to get medieval!!! j/k had to balance out the rant.

but you can't fight mother nature, but you can be better prepared. my father told me hours before the storm that the superdome was so chaotic he wouldn't even take a chance on going there because you were told to bring your own food for a few hours!!!!! and he would have died there if he did chose the superdome as shelter. instead his neighbors all pulled together for each other.

clairus99,
thanks clairus. I will. still no word on rescuing his pets, but several pet services have responded to email/phone requests to follow up. but they're so overwhelmed now, it's sad. animals become a low priority during times like this. :(

and I don't know why they're playing the race card when all races and animals are suffering now - except snakes and alligators of course. @.@ pretty much everyone I grew up with, including black and white family and friends lost everything, and the ones who made it out are in shock.
