Jennifer,
I'm sure you probably know, but in the Remasted Blazing Saddles release,Mel Brooks brings this to light,He fought for RP in the role and also gives RP his props, which I thought was genuine.I didn't know before this ,how much RP had influenced this project.
It's one of the first movie's I can recall that used the word nigger, and walking home from that movie with all my friends{white},I felt different ,no one was going to hurt me with that word ever again,, Laughter was the key ...And I'd much rather laugh a MFer to death B-) B-)

Jennifer, I could be missing a word or two , but Mel Brooks verbally said he fought for RP in the title role and only settled on CL after the movie bigwigs wouldnt' budge, He said at time RP was doing his stand-up, and although he had movies credits , he was untested for a Lead role at that time.He specifically said RP wrote the mongo role, and sat in with all the other writers throughout the screenplay process. He seems to recognze RP as what he is , a funny MF'er
B-) B-)

dumbass,
Most of Quinton Tarantino's flicks would probably tie for #2 for that honor.

Did anybody catch Kaity Couric interviewing G Wilder this AM? After she mentioned some other actors ,she paused and said Richard Pryor......the first word out his mouth without hesitation was sullen....then he added other adjectives ,brillant ,funny ,genious {I think}.Then he said something about him being late to the set.But sullen? I've have never heard anyone in show biz, who was asked to describe RP use any word that wasn't a superlative ......
