JOURNAL ENTRY #2 5-9-06

Hit the streets again today to see what my next line of stores and areas will be. The movie is now in about 15 various stores (record stores, liquor stores, gas stations, etc.) around in my immediate area. I want to do 45 by the end of the month. We'll see. This doesn't include all the video stores it's in from the distributor I'm working with.
They had mentioned one store to me early on and today I was cruising on the westside and saw the store, which I had never been in before. I pulled over and said to myself, "let me see if the movie made it in here." I walk in and headed over to the new release shelf and lo and behold two copies were sitting right in the middle on the shelf with "one-night rental" stickers on it.
Being TOLD it's in a bunch of stores is one thing, but to see it actually sitting on somebody's shelf along side the latest Hollywood blockbuster blew my mind. And It's renting WELL!
It was just confirmation of everything I've fought for and went through to see this thing to it's completion and to have the one moment I had today...that little triumph...made it all worth it.
I walked out of that store and into the sunlight and pumped my fist in the air one good time...ONE FOR THE GOOD GUYS!

Doin' it like Dolemite!

deepseas,
Aw, thanks Marion, that is very heartfelt and I appreciate it very much. Yea, Teonna's laugh at the end of that blooper is priceless. What a character that kid is.
When you order it, I'll get it off to you immediately.

Again, Thanks! :)

Journal Entry #3 5-23-06

Alright, been out da loop for a little while with some personal issues. Today, went and checked some of the stores the movie is in and in four of them it sold out completely in three weeks, which is a good sign. Not monumental, but it's a start. They each had about five copies apiece and are taking on more. I think by not having any big publicity, it's gonna gain it's buzz on word of mouth. I got some things in the works to push it out there this summer and also to get it to some industry folks, but like everything has been through this process, it takes time. It'll get there. It just takes time.

tis2flyyy,
Both of those apply for sure.

Journal Entry #4 5-24-06

Had to haggle and negotiate for almost 45 minutes today with these store owners over whether or not they would carry the movie. First it was, "We want to carry it, but we don't have anywhere to display it." Then it was "Customers might bring it back wanting a refund and they act crazy (meaning black folks) if we can't give it to them." Which almost made me walk out. Then finally as I was writing up their reciept they were like, "Hold on, we gotta see if we have license to carry DVD's." I was getting hot by then and was like, "If you don't want to carry it, just say so!" I think they were just fucking with me giving me a hard time. But I batted down every thing they threw at me and at the end of it all, it's in the store.

Moral of story...fight for your shit!

dougdigitalpro,
yes thats one peice of good advice......to never burn your bridges behind you......make a good impression for you may not need the store or guys or girls then but you may need them later an so then later you can call them an everything is fine B-)
