Its over with time to move on.

I am sorry you bomb. And I am sorry you didn't learn anything from the experience. I had my open mike night last night where I mc and there is a brilliant comic named Justin that has been coming every wednesday night for about 2 months now. He has had success at our room (which is a hard room) because he is so eccentric and real physical. He is als a comic's comic. We all love when Justin comes on because we never know what he is going to do, because he always does a different 5 minutes and some of his stuff is just amazing. Unfortunatly he was a bit flat last night because he had 3 horrible gigs in a row like where people were shouting at him telling him to get off the stage. It has really messed with his head and he starting to go into a downward spiral. Being the mother hen I am I had a chat with him after the show and asked him why he thought he was bombing so much now. He said he thinks it is because of the lack of consistency. I told him he was exactly right. When you do a different 5 minutes week after week you can not judge at all what has worked and you should keep and what hasn't. You can't get any consistency into your material. He actually said to me last night that he was thinking about becoming more like the other guys he sees doing well. I said hell no. His brand of comedy is so visual and everyone loves him because he is a nice guy on stage, a bit like an alien, but nice. So if he changes to be like the other monotone comics with no act outs he won't do well at all because it is not him. He just has to hone his material, almost put reigns on it and pull it in, tame it so that he knows what works and what doesn't and then build on from there. We all hate doing the same material over and over again but people like Richard, Woody Allen, Robyn William may give the illusion that they are making this stuff up as they go along but they have woodshedded it and tried it on that many audiences till they know without a shadow of a doubt it will get laughs and that is what we should all be striving for. If you bomb it is ok because we all have to bomb at one time or another BUT quite honestly having a room full of people holding their sides to keep from peeing themselves laughing at your shit you made up yourself is much much much better and isnt' that why you are doing comedy?
