is it possible?

can white comedians integrate racial comedy in their acts the same way black comics can yet?

a black comic can say anything he wants about a white guy on network television... but i think a white guy would get picked apart.

i notice a couple white comics throwin in quicky racial jokes once ina while... but they usually follow up with something to turn it on themselves shortly there after... hehehe

just curious what peoples thoughts are on this subject.

Gareth,

I've been thinking about this too. I don't think it would get the same acceptance in comedy, because people will begin to think you are racist. I was toying with the idea of coming up with some material in that direction, because it's hasn't really been explored for fear of getting a negative reaction.

Here is another situation where stupid white men (KKK, Nazis, Strom Thurmon, etc.) have ruined a perfectly good opportunity for comedy... gah. @.@

Jane :)

jane_haze,

HAHAHA. i think so too. i got some jokes that are genuinely funny, but wasted for fear of a savage ass beating.

pretty soon bold white comics are going to have to literally dress like a cop. vest, firearms, the works.

Gareth,

The great thing about comedy is that anything is possible ;)

Jennifer,

It's a thin line, but as long as you're comfortable with why you're doing race material, you shouldn't be afraid to. I think the most difficult thing to do is take the side of something with humour and not a)alienate some of a crowd and b)not let your ideology surpass the gag. I say go for it! But I won't force you to go for it. :)
