The Stand-up

The funny one puts it right out front,
for the whole sorry world to see.
If I can make, just one person laugh,
if I can find the right key,
To help the people forget all their woes,
and laugh till the beer comes out of their nose,
Yes that would be great for me.
It wouldn’t be bad if I had an army,
but on the stage, I work alone,
You see, my job is a stand-up comedian,
and up there is where I call home.
Under the strain of the lights and the eyes,
I want to make someone laugh till he cries,
And say goodnight just before he dies,
It won’t matter if I’m still an unknown.
In the beginning no body knows you,
and they don’t know what to expect,
Some people want to see you do well,
and some people hope you get decked.
Such is the life of the comedian,
who wearily stomps through the land,
Looking for people to make him feel wanted,
so lets get up and give them a hand.
