Carlin

I searched on the little google thing at the bottom and never saw an official stance on the Carlin/Pryor debate. I will readily state that I think of Carlin as the greatest just because I relate to him more but I hope no one takes that as a slight to Pryor. The one thing that is swaying me a bit is to see that the Pryor family is active in the online fan base and Carlin isn't. I give a lot of respect to figures who do that and there are only two that I know of that do so, Kevin Smith and Tommy Walter's from Abandoned pools. But What is Richard Pryor's opinion of Carlin and is there any animosity or love due to the fact that they are soo contested as the greatest comedians ever (I love Lenny Bruce too, don't mean to slight him but Pryor/Carlin are from the same time frame). Sorry if none of this makes sense but I type in drunkenese. Speak now or forver hold your breath till you turn blue.

TurtleBeoulve,
Go to the search prompt at the top of this page and
https://richardpryor.com/forums/msgs.cf ... ey1=carlin - check this topic out in the meantime.'
I could go on a rant about this issue but Carlin is one of the few worthy for me to give grace points to.
I don't agree with you though......

TurtleBeoulve,
Why can't they both be revered????? Why pit one against the other? Competition is only for the small-minded. Great stand-ups are great because they only compete against themselves. It's all about living up to your own potential -- achieving what psychologists call "actualization!" In so doing, you evolve and transcend above hackdom. Both Pryor and Carlin are patriarchs and should be commended for sharing their talents. Why not just enjoy their work? On a personal note, I think Pryor is the funniest comedian of all time. But I'm mature enough to realize comedy is an artform and all art is subjective. Hence, your taste will differ from my own. That's okay...you have the freedom to be mistaken.

bingolong,
Speaking of Carlin. Isn't he supposedly working on a broadway show or something? Not a musical. But something on linguistic analysis, etymology or language related. I heard about this last year and not a word since. Hope he completes the project soon.
