Hey, It's Robbie, I've been away for a minute. I just worked on a indepenant film Called "Black President" starring my friend Eddie Griffin as the Prez. And I've been doing gigs here and there. I'm slated to be in Korea and Japan performing at the end of june til july 1st. I've been there before.
Now being that black comedy is so popular now than ever...that's not true. Redd Foxx had a comedy room on western ave in L.A., and it was on the darker side of town but lot's of whites and other races came in to listen and laugh. If your a white comic looking to be funny, do black rooms. These rooms know funny and will let you know if you shit ain't workin. Trust me many have walked off stage with there tail between there leggs. Black audiences are tough because they won't take any ole bullshit. And you have to stepp up your game. Gareth, has came to the club I work at regularly for the past 3 monday's and he got a chance to see how white comic fair at a all black club. Even comics with a little T.V. under their belt. The main objective is to be funny, creative and ORIGINAL. I say that to let you know if you come to my club we'll call you out. If you stay original and cleaver people will come to see you, and you'll gain a fan base. In the past i've given advice. but I'm a working comedian and I can tell you what works. Dave Attell was a open mic comic at the comedy store and he was horrible, but someone saw his potential and gave him a shot. Jay Leno used to mc at the Tropicana Strip club, Dave Letterman and Jerry Seinfeld bombed every night on stage. And it took Seinfeld 4 years to shop his show. Larry David couldn't deliver his own material, but he's a great writer. What made the differance in these comics were, that they didn't give up. If this is what you want to do for the rest of your life then believe in yourself. Good Luck.
