The Anti-Rednecks:

Marc Maron, Greg Proops, Lewis Black.

Go submerse yourself among those comics and it might restore your faith in people who can be funny without resorting to jokes about their sister's moles.

I hate redneck-iness. Why do you think I was so adament to get the fug out of Alaska...and Oak Harbor. Yay for screaming liberals who have cracked a book in their lives!

That Old Hippie Chick,

Bummer! You've seen his show before though, right? I thought it was weird to see him play the Purple Onion, because he seems more of a Cobb's or Punchline comic.

Tremendous, everytime. Especially when that man gets into politics. Wow, dead on, I feel.

Yeah, and Marc Maron was gonna play Seattle in May, but decided to postpone his appearance because we're gonna have Gaffigan, Birbigs, Demetri Martin and another guy playing a theater cross town.

That saddens me...

I think country comics can be funny, and I don't believe anyone is trash because they were born poor and white, nor do I think anyone should be ashamed of where they came from. The only thing they should be ashamed of us is sucking on stage and not evolving as a person. Git R done sucks big time, but hell I'll take his money

It's amazing at who and what gets a following. I've heard from a friend that toured with "The Cable Guy", that he really is a good writer, but he put together this character and that's all anyone wanted to see so he ran with it.
Comedy is really bothering me right now, I'm sure I'll get over it. I'm a bitch for comedy and comedy is the best pimp I ever had.
It's like with Chappelle getting sick of hearing "I'm Rick James Bitch" at his shows. At least he has the courage to say, I'm not doing it.
Do we blame the comic? The audiences for not wanting better? The networks for taking the easy road? It's amazing, "Arrested Development" gets pulled while Comedy Central is running "Blue Collar TV" marathons.
Let me quit bitching, I'm gonna put in my "Richard Pryor Show" DVD and shut the fuck up!

robfharris,

"pop" culture by definition appeals primarily to the lowest common denominator of society. (see reality TV). There is a point where you have to decide to stay true to your craft or "sell out" a.k.a. dumb it down to appease the coporate heirarchy that force feeds this drivel to mass society. Every artist must make that choice. Knowledge is pain. Ignorance is bliss.

Anditsdeeptoo, comedy is just like music in that case, bland and inoffensive sells
