why is mc'ing so hard at some venues?

at my stage of comedy when I get paid gigs it's usually as a Mc. Some venues it seems like the crowd just doesn't want to laugh at a Mc, I've featured at one place and got over big time, and Mc'd the next night and heard crickets at the same venue. Is that normal? any of you old timers got any tips to bring a dead crowd up? Some venues I've mc'd at have been easy, and others hard.

Murphdogg,

I know that crickets chirping feeling. When I emceed, I heard a lot of it... but that's also because I mc'd for a crowd of 4...

Umm...there's probably something about acknowledging the feelings and thoughts of the crowd that might be useful, but there again, I've only done it once.

From my royal ass,
Jane

That Old Hippie Chick, that was a great link, so I wasn't doing that bad..it explains that..one new thing, I new you didn't tell a joke after the headliner, but I didn't know that you only told a joke after the feature if you needed to bring the crowd back

That Old Hippie Chick,

Is that why comedy is always climaxing a bit sooner than I expect?

Thanks for those MC guidelines. Most definitely appreciated!!!
