robfharris,
some of today's best comedians started on Def Comedy Jam...Tucker, Mac, Rock, Lawrence, Griffin, Chappelle, to name a few..you really didn't like that show? Anyway, this new special is pretty good...i laughed.

onthecorner,
Chappelle, Rock, and Lawrence did not start off on Def Jam. The three of them were established comics on tv (Remember Chappelle on MTV, back in the day... did not know he was only a 17/18 year old kid). None of the good comics started off on Def Jam, it opened doors for them, no doubt (Ask anyone Bernie Mac was destroying clubs before Def Jam, he even had a tour before that). The first year of Def Jam was special, then you had a bunch of comics that were trying to mask Richard Pryor jokes as their own.
The best thing that could happen for "urban/black" comics would be for Comic View to be canceled. Guys are not paying dues anymore. People are getting on TV with less than two years of stage experience. It's really sad. Def Jam had that special year, because they grabbed the best "working" comics in the biz. Comedy is hard, there are not that many people good at it. Because BET and now Diddy have to book people for these shows people are getting exposure before they are ready.
Even Comedy Central takes a break from Premium Blend every couple of years, to let the talent catch up.
Honestly, you are the first person I've heard say anything good or bad about Diddy's show... and that's not good when people aren't discussing it in the streets and the barber shops.

robfharris,
Maybe Def Jam isn't where those comedians started, but without it, many of them would still be struggling. I think that Def Jam kick-started many of their careers thanks to HBO.
I agree that guys aren't paying their dues anymore. There is a lot of average humor out there and it seems so redundant. But, I'm a comic junky, always looking to find something funny to laugh at and I think this show deserves a chance. just my opinion.......besides, Doug E. Fresh is the DJ...

onthecorner,
Correction:
Doug E. Fresh is the M.C.
Mr. C. of Big Daddy Kane fame is the D.J.

bingolong, I love Doug E Fresh, but a comedy show needs a comic mc. Pdiddy could learn alot from Mr Simmons who never started out his own show on the mic.
