How do you feel about Lennon as a comedian?

Might sound like a strange question but Lennon had a comedy sense that was a big part of him as a performer. It started very early as a kid and got known during the Beatles Cavern and Hamburg years. You know he'd do the spastic face for the cameras, count down the songs in German instead in English (1234). Really there's too many examples to mention. His interviews, his book, the songs he did (ie. You Know My Name Look Up The Number) and on and on. I think people who care about comedy have a special humanity that helps them out no matter what they do. Any opinions?

i like the part where Lennon is playin Imagine on the white piano an Yoko is sitting there an when he says after the part of ......You say im a dreamer .......an then in a low voice he says ......but im not the only one.....was funny ....yeah he was personable......he probably could have made a good comedian ....this clip was on when he made several versions of the song Imagine.......he was just spoofing around.....

Appaloosa,
he was a very down to earth person who could relate to many people, but at the same time didn't take life so seriously. I could definitely see him in comedy.
I couldn't see Paul McCartney, unless he took on a Simon Cowell role and judged it.

and as much as I love George Harrison, music was where is heart was. don't know much about Ringo.

tamra,
I think McCartney would be a hack comic, but he's managed to make me laugh at his really bad puns (i.e. "We're doing a cover of a song by Rambling Jack Elliot... son of T.S."). I don't think John could have done the comic thing, his humor seem to be drawn out of immense pain... now George on the other hand was completely hilarious at times. He was just quieter than the rest. He co-produced the Rutles and a few other Python related gags, he just wasn't as much of a comedic performer.
Ringo... his a gag. Check out his videos at ringostarr.com... he seems almost senile...
But as a group, the reason why they seemed so funny, is that they looked like they were having fun. Check out Help! to see some of the most hilarious lines in the history of film... some greats include "Look, a fiendish thingy!", "If I had a Luger, I might, dare I say it... rule the world." and "Ho! HO HO! Ho ho!"...
They were just so whimsical and cute, I guess.
But really, everyone needs to watch Help. Everyone.

walrusjk,
I thought Lennon had a sense of humour and was funny, but he was no comedian. A comedian is someone who does comedy as an art form - by itself. Lennon certainly used comedy to enhance his public persona, though...
Who can forget, "Thank-you... and I hope we passed the audition."

hellifiknow,
John Lennon is not dead. He has just been hosting Mo' Betta Mondays... Since nobody goes, it has been assumed he had died years ago...
(Alright, there are a few old timers her who are laughing their asses off. The rest of you can do a little searching, unless Walt provides the link.)
