I always had a bit of trouble with Thanksgiving. It supposedly celebrates, among other things, the friendship that was formed between the White Man and the Native Americans in the early 1600s. But within a few centuries, that same White Man would all but wipe the Native American off the face of the Earth. You know - much like we're trying to do to the Arab man today. Plus, the White Man in the Thanksgiving story is the Puritan - the forerunner to the Religious Right of today. And, on top of all that, Thomas Jefferson was strongly against any national day of Thanksgiving to God as he did not believe there should be any national holiday that has anything to do with God, and technically, that's what Thanksgiving is - or was initially. Everything about this holiday is wrong. But I had turkey and stuffing anyway. After all, I am an American. It is my patriotic duty to be a complete and utter hypocrite.
