Money Shot,

easy there bro. one good season from prior does not make him a HOF guy. Greg Maddux is HOF, Prior is currently a long shot. Can't wait to see him pitch ten more seasons, if he can, but he's still a very very very long shot. Wood is a better example, got a few more seasons under his belt. You're right though, all of those guys can pitch, and I mean really pitch. All I am saying is you guys will probably (PROBABLY) win this year, but I've yet to see a reason to be hyped on the cubs in the long term. Dusty Baker is a great game manager, but he rides his arms hard, loves his veterans, and always wants to win NOW. Look at what he left behind in San Francisco and you'll see what I mean. Aging team, worn out arms, and no prospects ready to move up. Just pray he doesn't ride Prior and Zambrano too hard this year.

ps. watch it with that avatar please. it's really big, throws off the layout of the page. try to keep your avatar size under 100 pixels.

cbreez0101,

Just drafted a couple good pitchers???

Prior, Wood & Zambrano are more than just drafting a couple good pitchers. Prior's a future HOFer if he stays healthy (*knocks on wood*). Woody's on the verge of his first 20 win season (need I remind you what he did in the divisional series last October). Carlos has nasty stuff and will be one of the toughest bases to reach in baseball once he harnesses his energy.

Add on Corey Patterson, Derek Lee (the best all-around 1st baseman in the game right now), and a front office that's actually pursuing a championship AGGRESSIVELY for the first time in my life........piss on a curse. It's only a matter of time.

Money Shot,

i just want to see my team win, for twelve years straight. cubs might look good this year, but the five year outlook ain't so good. they bought a nice team, and drafted a couple good pitchers, but they have to sustain it before they're legit winners.

rsmayton,

i read a great article on baseballprospectus.com about the expos and the '94 strike. they have theories on what may have happened if the 94 world series hadn't been cancelled. the expos might have won (they were kicking ass that year, larry walker, pedro martinez i think, among many others). unfortunately, the strike hit the expos hardest, and it's been all downhill from there. what's really a bummer is how they describe the expos fan base. really great fans in montreal, it's just hard to support a team that bud selig could pull that plug on any time now.

i'll see if i can't dig up that article. fascinating, for baseball geeks.

Gareth,

don't count on them spending any money. or at least, don't expect them to spend like the yankees! really, they'll have plenty of chances to win the world series if they keep this same pitching.
