AM I DEPRESSED TODAY OR WHAT????
UNTITLED II
Falling through life
At times, like a wandering leaf
More often, like a violent tornado
Never gracefully balancing the two
Always failing to enjoy the experience
But who are we to say
We’re just rapidly passing by.
MOTHER’S ABUSE
Walking through the door, I can see his anger.
Oh no, what will happen on this night?
Will this be another event in a woman’s danger?
Please go to your room and stay out of sight!
Here it goes, the yelling and screaming,
She pleads as every evening before.
I see it, there it is; his eyes are gleaming.
Then she runs past me, slamming the door.
“No, no, please”, I yell in a shaken voice,
But he’s deaf and of narrow mind.
If only I were a giant, he’d have no choice;
His fists against himself would be his crime.
She is stricken with fear as her body stiffens,
Accepting each blow as though it were due.
In a puddle of her own is a new transition
And his behavior resembles a mobster crew.
Crying uncontrollably, I jump on his back
As he proceeds to kick her in the stomach.
Being long-term routine, he’s got the knack
To make her self esteem plummet.
Supposing the begging and crying weren’t enough
Because there is a weapon to be chosen;
Bats were only made for balls to bust.
Now, weakened, I stand behind frozen.
Fright prevails through every vain of my being,
When he ceases his action of abuse towards her.
Wondering, do I really see what I’m seeing?
Or are my tears causing a dedicated blur?
He walks away with all anger subsided,
As she lies with a broken rib, bloody nose,
Black eye and tears that he’s happily provided.
How does a woman accept these blows?
Another night, we’ve survived his wrath.
Why does she deem this acceptable?
Now, she’ll go wash up in a warm bath
And tomorrow, tonight will be reflected in a mirror.
They say that there is love between them.
Maybe if I squint my eyes, it will be seen.
Daddy will promise not to hurt her again;
Come next evening, Mommy has a broken spleen.
