These group of folks have licensed English rights and are doing a big push in distributing it. They have asked me to do a video introduction to it. Sweet-it was such a great time falling into love with Richard at the same time all that great material was being developed and finally shot at The Long Beach Terrace Theatre.
I just talked about how Richard put it together and ended up at the theatre in Long Beach-and how kool it is that folks in cold rainy shitty England are digging it!!
Jennifer,
WANTED is a great audio document of that tour, but is there another version of that show also shot in Long Beach? I remember having an old Movies on TV book that mentioned something like RICHARD PRYOR IS LIVE AND DOING IT AGAIN or something like that. Either it was a re-issue title for Live In Concert or something entirely different with the same director. Any clues? It would be great to see some deleted footage down the road.
I believe the title you're thinking of is RICHARD PRYOR IS BACK LIVE IN CONCERT. But, I'm not sure if it's the same movie released again or a different performance of the same tour.
reelblack,
There was an attempt by some outlaw producers to recut it and retitle it and rerelease it but Richard sued and shut themdown; that was back in the late 70's, early 80's!
In Leonard Maltin's book, there is a movie listed RICHARD PRYOR IS BACK LIVE IN CONCERT (1979). It says it is the same material from LIVE IN CONCERT. I also saw BACK LIVE IN CONCERT mentioned in one or two biographies of Richard (not his autobiography). Did these "outlaw" producers re-release it after all?
