Lady Sings the Blues DVD

Post by dougdigitalpro »

I know this probably should go in the movie section, but I felt it was important enough news to go here. Just picked this up tonight and watched it with the commentary. I said here a while ago to Jen I think that I've noticed recently on alot of DVD's that've come out with Richard Pryor in them(ex. The Mack) where there's an interview, it seemed a lot of people took the opportunity to kick the man when he's down. These are people who were scared to shit of Mr. P back in the day and now that he can't really come out and defend himself, they use this time to talk about how bad Richard Pryor was to them and all the fucked up shit he did and how mean he was and all these things that have nothing to do with the art! They just feel now they can take out their their revenge on him without giving him his due as a great artist. Well, that was NOT the case on this DVD. The commentary was done by director Sydny Furie, Berry Gordy and artist manager Shelly Berger and in the stuff they talked about with Richard Pryor, they made some really beautiful comments about his performance and him as a man. I was really moved at the comments made about him and they gave him much love. I think Rich would be proud. The thing only cost me $10.00, which I almost feel guilty about because it's such a classic film and the bonus stuff is really nice, even though it's not a whole lot. This one is defintely a keeper for Pryor fans, Motown fans, Billie Holiday fans, Diana Ross fans, music fans, and fans of genuinely good entertainment. Great movie and superb acting all around. Pick it up! :)
