The politicalness of today's entertainment

I was going through my movie library and something occurred to me....Alot of movies that were made in the 70's and 80's would be too " offensive " for today's viewers. There is no way that Blazing Saddles would be able to get the greenlight and be made. I realize that the American Pie series and South Park are leaps and bounds in the offensive space, but the humor of Blazing Saddles and Bustin Loose is based on race. What I find puzzling is that alot of these films are in everybody's top ten but would be frowned upon for the racial slurs if made today.

That Politcal correctness is a bitch ain't it!!But not just movies,look at television shows from "All In The Family" on down.I'm telling you it's backwards but all that stuff was groundbreaking too!!

I agree. Shows such as All in the Family and The Richrd Pryor Show were groundbreaking! If All in the Family wasn't made, then Cartman wouldn't exist. And The Richard Pryor Show was a clear fore-father to the Dave Chappelle Show. I wish that people would look at the content of the art and not just see the " offensivness ". It is sad when we have gone from just having rating on movies, but now on television shows.

Hell yeah basically Comedy Central would be out of business!!But those are the only 2 real examples of shows on basic cable that push it,Am I missing any others?

Now I loved his show on ABC alot like what Tough Crowd is now.But I hate that I always miss his show on HBO, and when I finally do it's close to halfway thru or to the end of it!!!

But I think ABC saw that "comment" as an opportunity to get him gone, and you know who owns ABC.....the same company trying to put a hold on Micheal Moore........DISNEY!!!!

I am a fan of Michael Moore as well. I hate the fact that entertainment seems to be in a tailspin and tells us that things are looking up because of a few ass shots in NYPD Blue. Now granted that it hasn't all been ass-backwards. The Dave Chappelle Show has broken boundries. It sounds off with passion and humor that gives it the edge and quality I think people need. Some of the skits aren't for everyone, but if they were, then it wouldn't be as funny as it is.
Take The Richard Pryor Show....It was held down by the network and God bless Richard for taking it off the air instead of being cancelled! ( Little known fact....IT WAS NOT CANCELLED! ) I wish people would stop grading our good times with little stickers and letters with numbers attatched to them! If you don't like the way the movie or show is....don't fucking watch it! And please don't create the PMRC because of a Prince song, ( Darlin Nikki ) and years later praise him!
I am rambling.....sorry. My statement is we need to look hard at the way people are confining our viewing and listening privledges. And yes they are privledges because not long ago we didn't have the freedom to watch our listen to what we wanted to.
Jesus....I am going off! Shit....I need a nap.

I too miss shows like [/i]All In The Family and Sanford and Son[/i]. They were SO honest. Now no writer would dare write a racial slur into a script. The saddest part is that the writers actually [/i]think[/i] their doin a good deed by being PC.

What they don't seem to realize or maybe just don't want to admit is that just b/c a person is PC in public, doesn't mean they aren't racist in private@.@

Political correctness doesn't cure racism, it just dresses it up

One of my favorite episodes of Sanford & Son happened to be co-written by two brilliant comedic minds (I won't name him because I don't want to blow any egos up too much.) In [/i]Sanford & Son & Sister Makes Three[/i] Fred wears a smoking jacket given to him by this broad. When he throws her the hell out he then takes the jacket off and trows it yelling "...and take this faggoty jacket with you!" Would this line have gotten by sensors concerned with the possibility of offending men who enjoy the company of men? I say no.

The start of political correctness came about in my estimation after WWII, when the War Department was renamed the [/i]Defense[/i] Department to place the image in the world that we are not a war-mongoring society. Bullshit. We may never have had the stones to declare a war since, but we've sure had several "police actions." PC is ruining society because it glosses over issues trying to give the image that everything is allright.

Everything is not alright and we can see that very clearly, just look at the president, then look at his competition. Kerry can't take any side on any issues due to his need to be politically correct. Bush on the otherhand tries to be PC to a point, but takes the wrong side of just about any issue that is put before him. Constitutional ammendment anyone?
