Robbie,

No plan B? I just hope your shit is funny! I heckled a guy in Detroit who thought he was funny. All I did was wait for the silence (while he waited for a laugh) to get unbarable, then let out the hardest laugh I could. After a few times people were laughing when I would and people were patting me on the back telling me how awful the guy was. Please don't get on a high horse about how that was unfair... the guy just plain sucked. And I learned about how hard stand up can be from a lady I worked with named Miss Rivers, and I wasn't nearly as bad as she could have been. So there!

And don't steal the line about the "Garden Row" we know where it came from! :D

Robbie,

I don't want to beat you up but you're wrong. We should be encouraging people to do stand up here not trying to nip their creativity in the bud. Let as many people try as they like - it's natural selection, if they're shit then that means that those that ain't will flourish!!!

As for no plan B that's just fucking stupid - there's always prostitution!!!

fuckers,

sorry guys... i gotta agree with robbie %100. i been out to the clubs and seen him do his thing. me and him even did a gig last week (how effin cool that i can say that).

fact of the matter is this... he is right. you gotta have some fuckin brass buttons to hit a hard room. and if thats how you eat... you take that shit seriously. show business is business.

jtf... you mention heckling the shit out of a dude... you gotta be careful. i dont know what kind of lame comedy clubs you hittin... but everytime i seen hecklers out here... they get straight embarassed by the comics. check out a pro room or somethin. and if you think you got jokes ------->snaps board biotch.

garfy... not everyone is meant to do stand up. if someone experienced looks you in the eye and tells you that its hard, and you shouldnt do it, and that it takes something you probably dont have... and you do it anyways. then you might have the gusto.

but if you encourage someone, and put a titty in their mouth to get em onstage... they will get scarred by assholes like jtf ;p ---unless they got the tough skin you need.

check like this though... maybe i dont know what i am talkin about, or maybe i am as full of shit as anyone else here. but as of right now... robbie or richard are the only ones that will be able to shut my white ass up.

much love,

Gareth,
You just started last week!!What if someone told you that stuff Robbie was talking about while you were trying to make your come up and work your way into doing your comedy. You would probably not be doing what makes you happy and working a nine to five that you hate.

And I'm not even discrediting what Robbie said.I know I'm not going to be a comic.I'm funny to Motherfuckers that know me but do I have the confidence to put it on the line like that on stage: I don't think so!!
I'm not a "standup" I'm a fucking "sit down" comic.b.b

All us non-"comics" really want to know is how it feels to do what you you do.We appreciate what you do because we are on the website of the [/i]greatest comic ever[/i].PERIOD!!

This topic is "Comedy Stimulants": what other than drugs and booze stimulates you guys in the first place?

bingolong,

Basically, if I'm not getting paid I figure I can drink or do whatever because I'm just messing around. If I am getting paid, then I'll probably just have a drink or two and save the mood-alterers for afterward. But, to each their own. I find it hard not to be at least a little tightly wound before a show.

Oh, and Bingolong was asking about what besides booze and drugs acts as a comedic stimulant--I'd say the answer to that for me is performing somewhere fun.
If I'm having a great time just being there I'm a lot more comfortable as soon as I get onstage. I don't like to eat too much right before I go onstage because when I'm full, I'm content, and when I'm content, I don't feel a need to garner peoples' approval, thus negating a lot of motivation for joke-telling. Plus I'll be mostly thinking about crapping while I'm up there and that can't be good!
And Gareth, my unnecessary advice is: be like Pee Wee Herman in a movie theatre and 'just do you'

Gareth,

Never said I "heckled the sit" outta him. I wouldn't go to a room and try to upstage someone who was actually funny, but this guy was up there dying. There were like 5 people at a table in the front laughing... probly his famlily. The rest of the joint was just looking at each other, wondering what the guy was doing. His best comment to my out-of-place laughter was "Well, someone liked that one..." I almost felt bad for the guy. When your jokes consist of local shit "I was driving down 12 mile road" and there is nothing funny... Well, it was more about spending time with my sister while I was in town anyway.

I know what you mean about seeing a pro rip a guy apart: I saw Rivers do it and it wasn't pretty. I wouldn't heckle just to be an asshole, but if the shit is just plain unfunny, then let's act like we in the Apollo!

garfy1974,

Since I already have extreme chemical imbalances, severe panic and anxiety disorders, in my system, that have haunted me for decades, sometimes I have to pop a doctor-prescribed-pill just to get out of bed in the morning, ala Elvis Presley. I think I may be starting to finally see the effects on my colon from it all too. Dry turds with stubby heads hurt!

Funny thing is, I usually don't have much of a problem, sans the pre-jitters that most folks get before a performance of any kind, getting up on a stage or in front of other people, especially if they are complete strangers, for most any reason, given my condition.

I'm not an illicit drug user, I rarely drink and I don't smoke, though once in a while a Swisher Sweet or a good pipe may do me justice. I don't see anything wrong with a drink or two before taking the stage as a few drinks shouldn't fuck you up too much and if it does then you probably shouldn't be drinking in the first place. I have a very high tolerance to alcohol myself so I'd have to out-drink my liver in order for it to have any kind of real mood inducing effects on me.

I just get up and do my thing for the most part and let the chips fall where they may...
