abnormalandbitchy,

There are a lot of comics who make me laugh. But none really stand out as my favorite. Richard Pryor is a hard act to follow. But here are a few whom I like a lot: George Carlin because he's Carlin -- 'nuff said. Chris Rock -- another no-brainer. Sean Rouse -- this dude has a million and one ailments...but he still manages to be hilarious. Cedric -- the funniest of the Kings of Comedy IMO. Robert Kelly. Patrice O'Neal. Jim Gaffigan -- totally original. Ellen Degeneres -- only when she does stand up though. Grace White -- keep your eye on her. Katt Williams -- guilty pleasure. Kyle Grooms -- in a sea of defjam comics, he manages to stand out. Kevin Hart. Sarah Silverman. Dave Attell -- makes me smile just saying his name. Retha Jones -- ghetto with dignity intact. Robert Klein -- nuff said. Dane Cook and Alonzo Bodden -- ocassionally. Bernie Mac. Dennis Miller -- forget his politics, he's funny. Lewis Black -- he's going to have an anuerysm one day. There are more..but it's early in the morning....

There are several that I enjoy but IMO none compare to Richard. It's not that they aren't good in their own way, it's just not the same. Like comparing apples to oranges. An apple might be good but it ain't no orange. Other comics might be good but they ain't no Richard!

KMommy,

YOu'll get no argument from me. Pryor was phenomenal. One of the reasons why is because he defined modern stand up. He was the father of it. There were other contributors to be sure -- Bruce, Carlin, Klein etc. But Pryor took it to the next level. He made it real -- he liberated comedy from hackdom Unfortunately, many of today's comics are taking us back there....
