The Village
Excellent Film! Check it out! I won't give away any plot points as the shit gets twisty as hell towards the end but M. Night is defintely getting better with each movie. Very well written and executed.

dougdigitalpro,
Yeah great movie.I think it had 3 problems though:
1.It shouldn't have been a summer movie-
It's too good to get mixed in with all the hype and hoopla, you expect stuff to blow up and not actually a good movie during the summer
2.Shylaman's name shouldn't be at the top billing-
for the simple fact that now I was looking for the twists instead of just enjoying the movie,of course the movie has to be marketed and there is know way around it but I will never get that thrill I got from "6th Sense" b/c now I'm anticipating the twist."6th Sense" just excited me
3.There ain't not nare black person in that movie-
[/i]supposedly[/i] too soon after the Emancipation Proclamation I guess
I don't know what I'm talking about man it was a GOOD FLICK !!!!!

I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now; relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!

Re: The Village
bingolong,
LOL right. Because it takes place in the....plot point.
That was the brilliance of it. These people were hiding in fear from the world and for all intensive purposes probably were racist. It's never mentioned but it's kinda stating the obvious when the whole village is white folks and they keep talking about the "ones we don't speak of" which would be everybody else. It was a really brilliant piece of filmaking because I totally bought the whole living in the 1800's concept and then it...plot point and everything they were escaping were living right among them. Which is a broad concept on the state of White America. I really can understand this because there is that mindest here in Michigan. You have all these folks who keep moving up farther & farther away to suburbia & the hills trying to get away from black folks and then when something happens in their community, it's never some black person that kills them. It's one of their own. Probably one of their own family members! (Hacking, Peterson, etc.) So, I felt the film spoke directly to that concept and mindset of people who keep running trying to find some utopia and it doesn't exist. Evil is evil and it's everywhere, not just in urban communities.

Check this film out. It's a good movie. In fact, it would be a great one if made by anyone else. But when you see M. Night's name attached to a film, you go in with certain expectations. When you expect to be surprised, then it's no longer a surprise. But it's still a cool flic. I won't give any of the plot away...

mojones,
Your post made me think, is it a negative when a director or producer's name overshadows an otherwise good movie? I couldn't help but think over and over, "well it's good, but it's no Sixth Sense." It seems Spielburg, Oliver Stone, and others have this problem. Their legacy seems to taint the potential appeal of movies that are good, but fall short of their creators previous benchmark works.
