dougdigitalpro,
I guess you edited your last message. I was answering your question. I very much remember Ajaye. How could you forget. He had the biggest afro ever photographed on film!

JTF,

Wasn't Ajaye the one obsessing over "fly" stuff in Carwash? Oh and I bought his book. Its better than your normal stand up book..

everybody, here's more on Ajaye. I lifted this from Sheckymagazine:

Speaking of Franklyn Ajaye, he sends word from down under that he'll be in Melbourne until the first of the year, after which he'll venture to the U.S. to resume work as a member of the cast of the HBO series Deadwood. Ajaye just finished a stint as the opening act for Julio Iglesias' Australian tour, playing in Melbourne, Brisbane and Newcastle, ending the tour at the Sydney Opera House just last week.

There's also an audio interview link accessible via the Shecky site.

mojones,

What is sad is that if you look at either DVD cover for Car Wash, you would think that it is a movie about Richard & Carlin. The widescreen version doesn't even have Ajaye on the cover! (But I believe it does have Danny Devito, who was completely cut out of the movie.)

This is a film that really needs a "Special Edition" DVD. There is a lot of footage not in the film...

JTF,

Agreed. Incidently, a lot of films do that. I see Mr. Pryor's face plastered across a lot of movies that he's barely in. I guess they know what sells...
