I don't think everyone likes Rich just because he's funny... I mean, listening to him gives you peace to some extent because you really feel that he is a good person.
I've listened to every bit of Rich i can get my hands on. Throughout it all i've got the final impression that Rich is a guy that probably iddn't have the easiest life, but somehow remained reasonably pure inside... and over the years dealt with that with all the substance abuse.
Finally he built the strength to free himself from that and just be himself, and I think that's spectacular.
I don't pray for many people, and I don't really usually think most people should go to heaven, but I think Rich will, and I hope he is fully aware of how appreciated he is as not only a comedian, but someone that indirectly really strongly preached understanding.

It's what happens when you live the life, so to speak.
Even people who live the life because they have money don't really live the life, because of political or social restraints. I get the impression that Rich didn't give a shit about that, which is why I believe he reached this other plane where it's like, you live the life, do everything you wanna do, and digress to a point where it's all about love.
Not many people get to experience such things.

Man, that was a wonderful post you left and beautiful sentiment. I agree. Though Richard is the funniest man on the planet, what ingratiates him to people is his heart. He's such a lovable person. YOu can't help but like the guy. In his autobiography, Dangerfield said the key to comedy is getting the audience to like you. RP certainly had no problem in this area.
