FUCK YOU, RED AMERICA

Politics, religion, racism, sex, the weather... there's always lots to think about so there's always lots to talk about. Progressive ideas are encouraged but all opinions are welcome.

Jermane S,

- You Might be a Dubya Supporter if...
by Robin Buckallew
The last couple of days, I have been having this recurring nightmare that Dubya won 51% of the popular vote in this election. I wake in a cold sweat, thinking thank God it was only a nightmare. The American people could never be fooled by such a man. We have access to public libraries with books and magazines galore. We have several hundred TV stations and thousands of radio stations to give us information night and day, so we can easily sort out truth from falsehood. We have a myriad of public universities and think tanks whose job it is to keep us educated and informed about the issues. And yet....

Do you ever have a lingering worry that you might be a closet Dubya supporter? That you might, deep down inside, have voted for him subconsciously while pretending you were voting for the other guy (what’s his name again? I’m having trouble remembering). Well, I have been reading lots of articles lately based on polls of what beliefs are held by Dubya supporters, and I have been talking to a lot of Dubya supporters (not the closet kind, but the openly flag-waving, Bible-toting supporters). And I have compiled a list that will help you determine if you are, indeed a Dubya supporter.

You might be a Dubya supporter if....
· You watch Fox news as your only source of information.
· You find yourself saying “ditto” to Rush Limbaugh
· You believe the majority of the rest of the world is staunchly behind Dubya
· You believe Dubya “earned” an MBA from Harvard
· You think dissent is unpatriotic and unAmerican
· You think the only amendment in the Bill of Rights is the second amendment
· You believe the 9/11 commission said the administration had no warning whatsoever that someone might attack on American soil
· You believe the 9/11 commission said that Saddam Hussein was instrumental in the attack
· You believe that we found WMDs in Iraq
· You believe Saddam refused to allow the weapons inspectors in the country
· You believe draft evaders were bravely fighting the Vietnam war (from Alabama) and folks decorated with the Purple Heart weren’t
· You believe the above doesn’t apply to Bill Clinton
· You believe Dubya bravely and resolutely led the nation on 9/11
· You believe going shopping is an appropriate response to terrorist attacks
· You believe you can liberate people by killing them
· You believe we are reconstructing Iraq
· You believe national health insurance is a good idea for Iraq, but a bad idea for America
· You believe capturing Saddam made the world safer
· You believe Dubya supports the International Criminal Court
· You believe modulating your opinions in the face of new evidence is “flip-flopping”
· You believe standing your ground even when the evidence is against you is being consistent and strong
· You believe creationism is based on the best science
· You believe teaching kids sex education will increase teen promiscuity and pregnancies
· You believe criminalizing abortion will make it go away
· You believe the WTO and IMF are actually making things better in Third World countries
· You believe sending American jobs overseas is actually creating more American jobs
· You believe working women are the cause of all the world’s woes (except on those days when all the world’s woes are caused by Affirmative Action, public education, welfare, or separation of church and state)
· You believe the founding fathers were bible-beating fundamentalists who intended the country to be run by the Christian church
· You believe America is God’s chosen country
· You believe gay marriage will destroy heterosexual marriage, and lead us all to marry our pets
· You believe guns don’t kill people, people kill people, but deny that people with guns kill more people
· You believe the NEA is a terrorist organization
· You believe the NRA is not a special interest group, but the EPA is
· You believe Dick Cheney sold all his interest in Halliburton
· You believe black people have all the good jobs
· You believe black people are the only ones on welfare
· You believe black people keep having lots of kids to get more welfare
· You believe 2% of scientists disputing global warming constitutes “major” disagreement in the scientific community
· You believe a little global warming is good for you, anyway
· You believe there is enough oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to significantly reduce our dependence on foreign oil
· You believe drilling in ANWR will destroy only a few acres
· You believe using more oil will creates larger oil reserves
· You believe that Dubya favors the Kyoto Protocol
· You believe in the drug war
· You believe public education is less effective and more expensive than turning education over to market-based capitalists
· You believe Jesus was a market-based capitalist
· You believe segregation can create schools that are both separate and equal
· You believe there is no segregation anyway
· You believe all people who disagree with you are Pinko Commie Liberals

After taking this test, if you answered “AMEN!” to more than three of the above list, you could be a closet Dubya supporter. But don’t despair. There is a place for you in the New World Order. You could be well on your way to a top job in the housecleaning or food service industries (about the only jobs they haven’t yet figured out how to ship overseas).
But, I comfort myself with the knowledge that it was all a dream. There is absolutely no way Dubya could ever beat John Kerry in a fair fight

astonamous,

Great map! Not to mention that when taken in numbers the red and blue voters, that's about the only two choices one has if you want to pick someone with your vote who actually has a chance at winning, only represent about 1/3 of the United States total population. When seen in that light, the red and blue, combined, are the minority here.

I wonder what the other 200 million + Americans, as well as non-Americans, who live here think about it all.

astonamous,

You see what Bush is doing to this land...

High school political debate leads to assault
Thursday, November 11, 2004 Posted: 1940 GMT (0340 HKT)

APPLE VALLEY, Minnesota (AP) -- Three high school students, one allegedly armed with a bat, were charged with attacking a pro-President Bush classmate after he reportedly said only gays would support Sen. John Kerry.

"It's a good thing to see young people interested and excited about politics," said Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom. "It's obviously very disturbing to see this kind of violence over it."

The 17-year-old was assaulted last Thursday in the high school parking lot following a class discussion about the election, authorities said. He was treated for cuts and bruises and released.

The alleged assailants have all been charged: one with felony assault -- because he allegedly went to his car to get a bat during the assault, prosecutors said -- one with misdemeanor assault and one with disorderly conduct.

This is the end of the reign of the white man! There is no way US americans & The World are buying their bullsh*t. This war is fake, yet another group of brown people being bombed by the USA for Our Whites gain somehow... Money or otherwise.

This country has allot of blood on it's hand from the past. What Our Whites did to the Native Americans is the exact same goal Hitler had. Hitler learned from us.. and Our Whites building this country up with FREE Labor with Slavery of African Americans.

GW Bush will be the President we will look back on where everything went wrong.

"They" have gotten when "They" wanted! When everything goes to sh*t.. "They" have no one to blame but "Themselves".

Bush got in Office with a Surplus, NOW we have Huge Deficts! "They" can vote everything through without any Democrat Votes...

So when everything f*cks up... how in the world can "They" blame anyone but "Themselves". Just wait & watch..it will happen

Jennifer,

when i went to bed in England (great biton is not a country - it's a collection of Mr Bush - and trust me, most of Wales, Scotland and the Irish Republic dont want anything to do with you.) the exit polls were suggesting that it was to be a major win for Kerry. I felt physically sick when i woke to find that, barring a miracle in Ohio, Bush had won.

How has that happened?
Surely anyone who was proud of their country and how the rest of the world sees them would vote for Kerry?(Don't start me on that blessed PATRIOT act - the most UNPATRIOTIC act that has passed)
Surely anyone who appreciated freedom voted for Kerry? (Freeing the people of Iraq? How about killing tens of thousand of innocent people whilst missing the one man you were supposed to catch in Afghanistan.) lets see what they do with the abortion laws....
Surely the majority of non-whites voted Dem?
Surely anyone under the age of 30 voted for Kerry?

From over here, I cant understand it

........problem was from what i can see from Great Biton, Kerry was un-electable. I couldnt see what his stance was - i could see what Dubbya was for however much i disagree with, largely, everything he stands for.

So why do i care so much - The Guardian, the english left leaning newspaper got told to "butt out" of Ohio - we care because America is the worlds most powerful country and we all feel it's actions.

I am genuinely concnerned not just for (the horrible cliche phrase) "world peace", but for the people of america. My wife and i spent 10 months travelling from coast to coast, Seattle to Orlando - San Diego to Providence meeting hundreds of wonderful people who took time to talk to us and say "really - we're not all like the people you see on CNN and MSNBC".

I feel for you all, i really do. Somehow the liberal minded (why cant CNN Americans use the term liberal?) people we met have been let down. I'm flabberghasted.

sorry for rambling - it's been bugging me for days and sometimes it's nice just to let off steam....

Enjoy your weekends.

Has anyone seen a map yet showing election results by county? Results By County

Hawaii and Alaska aren't represented that I could see. Compare the red areas to the the last graphic showing a satellite shot of the United States at night. In most of the really, really red areas the lights are out cold because hardly anyone lives there. The city lights sure represent themselves when coordinated with their color position on the map.

I'm quite proud of my home state of South Dakota. Look at how blue it is compared to some of the rest of the Midwest's tornado alley. In fact, there's a large bright blue square in the bottom left-hand corner of the state that's about as blue as blue can get.

Check out the other links on that page, such as the animated gif of the 2000 and 2004 map. That bright blue spot in South Dakota was there 4 years ago too... I think it's one of the Reservations perhaps. "Give us our Black Hills back motherfuckers!" is probably the national anthem there.
