Well, I'm new here on this board so be gentle Anyway, I'm looking for good comic material. My little brother is kind of lost and I'd really like to help him find a venue to express himself or develop some interests. He's really funny and has a huge sense of humor. I think he he might have comic potential. So for christmas I'm getting him something that might spark an interest in comedy. I have already gotten him Richard Pryor: Live in concert!! But I'd like to get him something else as well like a good book by a comedian. I'm completely new to the world of comedy and don't know what to look for. I was surfing the net for reviews on books on comedy but then I thought of this board and thought to myself... why not go straight to the source and ask comedians about comic material?!! It made perfect sense so here I am. Do you have any pointers? What are your favorites?
I'm a good sister My brother is young just turning 18 soon. We live in Iceland and if you aren't into sports or belong to groups of that sort you're just lost and playing computer games 24/7 or fooling around with alcohol and drugs are your main choices if you're a teenage boy. So, I'm kinda trying to give him new things to occupy himself with. Iceland is a really small country, pop. 290 thousand. So, there aren't any comedy clubs and very little comic material available so I'm ordering off the internet. These last few years have produced a couple of stand up comics here in Iceland and I'd really like to see my brother discover something about himself. I might be on to something... we'll see what happens
What are your favorite stand up performances released on DVD's or VHS?
Thanx for your help! Am checking your suggestions out on amazon. I'll also be checking out the board for more info on good comics to check out. Thanx again!
I love Cruel Shoes by Steve Martin. It's not a how-to or anything but it's inspirationally hilarious. I cannot say the same for Tim Allan's I'm Not Really Here.
I know some time has past and you might not need any more recommendations, but I found the best book that I've seen on stand up. It's called A Step by Step Guide to Stand up Comedy by Greg Dean. It actually has some good information, some of it, I kinda had figured out, but it's got really great clear cut explanations and techniques.
