guyt,
Don't you just love shameless self promotion? I would do it myself, but every time I brag I bomb afterwards. Now, I just dog myself out. Lowers expectations. I can't help but do well after that...

Re: The Next Big Thing In Comedy?
guyt,
First, let me commend you on your professionalism.
Secondarily, relax – chill – calm down – take it easy. If you’re good, your talent will eventually speak for itself. What you need is exposure, not animosity. Why alienate people unnecessarily or make enemies if you don’t have to? What purpose does that serve? You want a fan base, not a rogues’ gallery – an audience, not a bunch of adversaries. At least, wait until you’re successful before copping an attitude.
I’m sure you’re a funny guy. But there’s a difference between being hilarious and being a great stand up. The two are not synonymous. Anybody can be funny. But stand up requires discipline, self--restraint – character even. Comedians are more like boxers than street fighters. The goal isn’t to win at any cost. You want to entertain and maintain a level of dignity at the same time.

Re: The Next Big Thing In Comedy?
mojones,
I like that dignity thing. Actually, we will know the next big comic when he/she arrives. I've given it some thought, and we already can talk about who was the best of the 20th century. But now it is time to discover who will break-out in the 21st century. Breaking-out and truly distinguishing one-self, will be quite an accomplishment more difficult than making a living in this trade. I'd at least like to get into and out-of the starting gate in this part of the 1st decade of the 21st century.
Oh well, time for reflection is over....back to my day-job!
Good luck and many laughs to all!

guyt,
Peace brother. Do your thing. But I thought this was the Comics and Comedy section, not the Snaps. Consequently, I was expecting more dignity and less cock references. It's all about context. Even Andrew Dice Clay isn't "on" all the time. It's cool though. I ain't mad at you. Thanks for the Ghandi comparison.
Afrojewbu,
As for the topic at hand, I've seen a lot of comedians and I haven't a clue who will be the next big thing. I know who I would like to see there. But the public is so fickle. I guess that's my reason for starting the thread. I wanted the opinion of others -- was hoping to be clued in on what direction is comedy heading.
(And yes, I know someone will probably say comedy is heading away from me....thought I would beat them to it..)

Re: The Next Big Thing In Comedy?
mojones,
Okay, I'd like to add to who is gonna break out. I'd like to nominate Mishna Wolff. Now, aside from being hilarious (to me at least) she's got another thing behind her--being married to another comedian with some bit of success himself, Marc Maron. I didn't know that until today. And it's blowing my mind.
But I'm guessing, she might break out to the point she's not completely living in obscurity. Getting to the level of peeps like Maria Bamford and Chris Hardwick type peeps. They're not too far out, but they have a bit of name recognition.

That Old Hippie Chick,
I nominate our own amazing Grace as the next big thing in comedy! Big as in successful -- you know what I mean. Funny, gracious and a class act. What else are you looking for?
