Variety/Sketch Comedy Shows

Post by Sylvan2004 »

Hey Jennifer,

Once again, let me apologize for that previous post. I don't know why it was brought up again.

Anyway, I just saw some episodes of the Richard Pryor Show at my cousin's house.

The episodes are very, very funny, but there were only 4 episodes made. Why is that?

I wasn't born in the 70's, so I don't know what was exceptable on television. But with shows like 'All in the Family' and 'Saturday Night Live' having controversal topics and adult themes, how come 'The Richard Pryor Show' was cancelled before it could get off the ground?

In my opinion, this show was more ground breaking than 'Saturday Night Live', and it paved the way for shows like, 'Mad TV', 'Martin', 'In Living Color', 'Chris Rock', and 'Dave Chappelle' Show.

No disrespect to Flip Wilson, but his show was more mainstream oriented.

Sylvan2004,

'All in the Family' was awesome. It would never fly today. I have to usually go back 20 - 30 years to find something decent on the little bit of television that I do watch.

With the FCC and the ultra-religious fanatics It's almost as if were regressing at a rate that should have us all with our tongues cut out living in our own personal iron lungs buried hundreds of feet underground by late this year.

Sylvan2004,
Inkblot is right on here-the fact that RIchard made any shows is a miracle-he snuck in under the radar and by the time the suits figured out how radical and genius it was -they began censoring, so richard quit! A miracle any got made-let alone four! Let's all be gratefull!! love jenny
