Dead man's shoe's/The Woodsman/Hotel Rwanda

Post by Funn DementaLL »

ok I watched these three films last night, Dead man's shoes is a british film, incredably effective, rather disturbing with tarces of heartfelt emotions curdling inside an angry spiteful nut shell... Officially reccomended, give it time to pick up as it moves a lil slow at the start...

overall-7.6/10

The Woodsman, hmm, not what I expected at all... again, very slow paced film but unlike dead mans shoes it failed to indulge me much feeling for the characters, well filmed, good script, but lacked any kind of excitment... Mos Def made the most of his role and so did female rapper 'Eve'

overall-6.7/10

Hotel Rwanda, Superb film, excellent castings, most under-rated film of last year, as its a true story and people are so ignorent of their/our African roots this film should be showen in school with no sugur coating... Go see it a.s.a.p

overall-9.4/10

Funn DementaLL,
I agree with you, the only shame in Jamie Foxx and "Million Dollar Baby" winning this year, is that Don Cheadle and "Hotel Rwanda" was over looked by the general public. Nice to see a studio make this movie though.
Now that Johnnie's gone, I guess I should start being nice to the cops.

Sorry had to split before i could write more in my last post. About Dead mans shoes, it is a small but amazing british film by up and coming director shane meadows. His other films are a room for romeo brass, twenty four seven, once upon a time in the midlands, and smalltime. He is without a doubt my favorit director and dead mans shoes is a film that has changed me in ways i didn't know were possible. Id love to hear whar more americans think as it is an extreamly british film focusing on small town mentality and the bad things we all do.

Funn DementaLL,
Loved Hotel Rwanda, but I have an unrelated question. As a British person, what are your thoughts on Mr.Cheadle's british accent in Ocean's Eleven and Twelve? Heard it caused quite an uproar. They were comparing it to Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins for Christ's sake!

Funn DementaLL,
I just saw Hotel Rwanda.....mainly cause of the rhetoric I heard about it in here.......it was awesomely riveting....it was a regime like Idi Amin's....the nasty killer sargeants....in command of other killers....all committing havoc..an gain for themselves...under the name of whoever is in charge....it's so sad that it happens here too....under different guises..... b.b .... b.b .... b.b .... B-)

Appaloosa,

Hotel Rwanda was one of the best films I've seen in ages! I rated it waaaay over "Ray" which everyone else was talkin' about at the time. What I really liked is that it didn't show anyone as being flawless. It just showed the futile madness of the whole situation. I loved the way Don had to hustle like a madman to keep everybody happy, despite the tragic situation, it really showed the resiliance of the human spirit. It's based on a true story, I didn't really know much about the situation when it was happening, but I've read a few books since. These places have a history of tribal animosity which was amplified during the century of colonisation in order to rule them. Sad to say, it probably won't be the last time we hear of such madness. b.b

As for Don Cheadle's "British" accent in Ocean's Eleven, that shit had me in hysterics! he sounded too white, he needed to come and hang-out and pick up some of the "lingua" rather than reading "Cockney for Beginners" Accents are always tricky though, even in "Hotel Rwanda" to two main stars often slipped out of their "Rwandan" tones, but it doesn't take away from the power of the film.

peace gee

Mister Gee,
yeah one of the focal points of the movie was when Don I guess ......offered money for his wife and children to one of the heads of the regime killers....an the guy was gonna shoot him .....but he stayed an offered the money an so the guy said yes.....an when the woman tried to bring her sister away the sister stayed with her family an children....even if she was gonna die....he paid for them to eventually...and the sister got in the van with her family an thanked Don....an he looked like he was in a bad dream just trying to do what he can....the whole movie was sad....and about people doing accents in movies....they cannot do accents to a tee....they sound fake.....an are fake....

Appaloosa,

That's why I like sean connery, whether he's playing a Frenchman in "Highlander" or an Irishman in "The Untouchables" or English in "The Rock" he still sounds the same. He doesn't give a shit! other actors immerse themselves in studying for roles and STILL get the accent wrong. Connery doesn't even try, he just says to producers "Yeah, I can do any accent" and then whistles all the way to the bank!!....dapper!

Peace gee ;p
