Anyone know of a comedy CD where the comic works the crowd a good bit? I need to work on that aspect and wanna analyze it from good pro's.
Thanks,

jane_haze, Robin Harris ..Bebe's Kids is a live recording of a master at putting an audience in there place....I don't know how it would go over in Seattle..but if you haven't heard it ,,you'll piss yourself listening to him cut on the audience anytime someone dare shout out an ill advised comment ...He was great..to bad he's gone.

jane_haze,
Crowd work is fun. You just to go up as much as possible work the crowd your own way. Let you natural style shine. You can watch some of the old Def Jam tapes hosted by Martin Lawrence. Also as mentioned before the TMIC was the best at that type of stuff. Also since you are in Seattle check out some of the local 1 nighters you will see all types of comics doing crowd work. Check out the Pegasus Pizza in Kirkland on Wednesdays at 9:30 pm. I call it the White Folks Apollo because if you ain't funny they will let you know.
A couple of local guys are good at crowd work... Heneghan and that guy Tony Daniel
!
See you around.

jane_haze,
Also as a comic I really don't want to do a lot of crowd work. I kind of want to bang out my jokes and entertain them that way. You can never know what an audience member might say or do.
George Wallace says that if you are getting heckled you probably have a hole in your set.

amp-d,
I don't want to rely on crowd work, in fact, I think watching a comedian who does nothing but that usually blows... But it's still an important skill to have in your comedic repotoire.
I'll definitely check out the Def Jam stuff.
Where is Kirkland?! That's all kinds of far from me! I'll have to make a pilgrimage one week.
Jane :p

jane_haze,
I can't think of a CD. But if Ian Bagg ever comes to a club near you check him out... I've seen him do entire shows working the crowd. Usually, it gets old with other comics, but he has mastered it.

Now that Johnnie's gone, I guess I should start being nice to the cops.

robfharris,
I actually have seen Ian. Have his autograph in my room too. I was thinking about him, but alas, he doesn't have a CD...that I'm aware of.
I'll have to keep that in mind though and make a point of going out and seeing him. Again.

Bill Hicks's Flying Saucer Tour Volume One has him battling against an indifferent crowd. It's not unreleased material or anything but he's working harder at it and it shows. One of his best available performacnes. Recommended.
Re: Crowd work CDs?
yeah riffing can be good or it can be bad, I've seen crowds that did not want to hear material, so riffing can come in handy, on the other hand I've been told if you start relying on it to much you'll fool yourself into thinking you have more time then you actually have, and if you get up infront of a non riffing crowd you may find out the hard way the strong 35 mins you think you have, may actually be more like 15 once you take out riffing
