My Kid's Gonna Be FAMOUS!!!
...at least that's the pipe dream her mother is filling her head with.
I get an email from her that this agency, "Fashion Rock" is really interested in her! They heard about her thru an acting teacher she had last summer (I didn't know that she was in an acting program last summer. I guess that's why she was unavailable to visit me) and they want her to be in a program in December. Big surprise... They want money!!! She's not sure how much, but they accept monthly payments!!!
I went to the company's web site and I know this must be legit, as it does say "As seen on TV!"
I actually went thru this with her mother about 9 years ago. I was accused in a very evil tone by this woman of "Not believing in this child... SHE HAS TALENT!" This is the same kid that was just as awkward as I was as a lanky kid, tripping over my own feet...
I did a google check on "Fashon Rock." Very interesting. It seems that they may not be a very reputable company. I was shocked! The Better Business Bureau doesn't seem to look upon them very favorably. Several of their executives have done time.

Now I have a problem. If I tell her mother, I'm an uncooperative bastard who doesn't believe in his kid. If I say nothing...
It's not even a situation where I feel that she could learn a valuable lesson thru failure, as she is unlikely to hear a word there that she also never hears at home: NO.

JTF,
As you know, agents don't cost money. They get paid when/if they get you work. You should just get the kid a legit agent and when "mom" has to schlep the kid around to auditions and the waiting and the regection will probably wear on them both.

JTF,
Your kid will have to audition for the talent agent too.

Visitor,
You mean her mother's opinion isn't good for a one-way ticket to child stardom, bolemia, anorexia, heroin addiction and lots of money for her mother???

Appaloosa,
I knew that. I told her mother that several years ago. Like Lou Rawls said: [/i]Some Folks Never Learn.[/i]
Funny thing... I just talked to my kid for about an hour on the phone. She didn't mention it once. I wonder whose idea the well thought out, properly typed, correctly spelled (mostly) email was.
