my home town of New Orleans looks unreal now. I've only heard that one relative and her baby made it out, as in evacuated before the storm hit. but my dad who's 64 and has a bad heart and needs daily monitoring left a frantic message sunday night. he also has pets he loved, which I don't know the status of either. I pay for his cell phone. we have not heard from him since and the cell company has no record of any other calls made. even the cell company has been trying to call numbers for me. I'm praying the hospital went for him again. however, he last told me the hospital let them leave before the storm with the option to go to the Superdome. he said he wasn't going.

it IS very very devastating. w/no electricity, can't get water out. then there's the natural wildlife to worry about at night, including snakes and alligator. New Orleans' spirit will live on always, but when I saw traditional family areas of New Orleans under water, my heart stopped.

and newborn babies are having a time with no water or food or a way to even heat milk if the mother can't breast feed.

I don't mean to ramble like this, but this is really really bad. and I won't know who all made it out safely until who knows when as per the cellular company over 500 towers were lost and phone services have been disabled completely.

just pray yall, prayer which I normally didn't believe in does work.

thank you both. and I hope you had a wonderful birthday. nothing like being with family and loved ones yanno. cherish every day with them, even when they're getting on your last nerve

so far no news on father, no one has been contacted either way. we finally heard from a cousin missing who decided to stay behind. she says what we're seeing on the news is 2 days old. things are dire and worse. children are getting raped in shelters, even injured children. people are watching people die on the streets while awaiting help.

no one's coming to get them. and minimal is being dropped off with nothing done at night for them.

just gonna pray for miracles now.

I live in Louisiana and I am still in shock at what is going on. I also have a missing family member and another family member searching for a pet. I will include you, your father and his pets in my prayers. Post a follow up when you learn something.

sorry, I just realized I should have placed this topic originally in the page one headlines forum. :p

thanks to all for your prayers and support. my father was found. in bad shape but found and evacuated to San Antonio. he's under medical care for not only his heart problems but the new problems from wading in that water while awaiting help inside the home.

now the other heartbreaking part, his dog and kittens had to be left behind, until possible rescue. the dog even tried to jump onto the helicopter while he was being removed from the home

which was uptown off Claiborne Ave.

this whole situation is unreal, but with everyone helping out, they'll be alright.

Please check out all the resources in Animal Rescue concerning the Gulf Area Animal rescues. There may be someone on one of those lists that can coordinate with you to rescue the animals. Also, they may already be rescued and there are contacts for organizations and shelters that might have the animals.

I'm glad your father has been found. I'm sure now that he is getting medical care, he will get stronger and be home with you soon.

Visitor, I think the right is winning the media battle once again over this tradgedy, which makes me ask the question..where the hell is the liberal media bias the right is always whining about?
