Ok guys clue me in. Why hasn't (not that I could find) anybody listed "X" as a favorite? Not done right?

Just curious, I thought it was a good movie and wondered if it was at least close to being accurate.

hellifiknow,

Hmmmm, I think that X was a very good movie, but not a great movie. that's not to take away from the actual story of Malcolm X's life (which is extremely fascinating and uplifting in its complexity), but I think that making such a movie was always going to be difficult because there are soooo many expectations of what people want to see. I think that it was made around the time of the Rodney King beating (?). This also made it difficult to show Malcolm in anything other than a positive light for fear of upsetting the already racially-charged climate of the time. There was so much hype behind the movie (didn't the financial backers pull out?), but everyone wanted it to be made. I think that Spike did a good job under such circumstances, but I see the movie as more an educational tool for the uninitiated as opposed to a brutally honest depiction of the man's life.

I tend to prefer bio-pics to show the extreme complexities of the famous men/women as they battle with their place in history, for me, X (the movie) didn't reach it's full potential. Saying that though, Denzel did an amazing job in emulating the mannerisms and voice of Malcolm X.

I'm just re-reading what I've written (and thinking about it)...... actually, X deserves to be up there with many of the other movies that people have cited. It's probably due to the fact that people have such a strong connection still with Malcolm X's story (hell, he influenced TMIC!) that they tend to be over-critical with Spike Lee's effort, (as I have just demonstrated!)

......on a completely different note, I've just seen Million Dollar Baby.... I thought that it was very moving.

Mister Gee,

I appreciate that and I definitaly fall into the uninitiated catagory, maybe thats exactly who Mr. Lee had in mind when he made it? If so it worked. The shit I heard when the man died was just that, info was a bit biased. Maybe it was just the script/acting but I got the impression the man was in the middle of a learning experience we all would have benefitted from.

I'd watch Morgan Freeman recite a cereal box. As far as I'm concerned he's one best actors ever. He should kick Denzels ass just for gp. ;)

Bingolongs just making fun of the ignorant redneck, ya hayer. :D

I finally got to see "million dollar baby" and I still say Morgan Freeman is the best actor around. If "supporting" means he carries the rest of the cast then I agree.
