I've visited this site a hundred times to check up on "The Man", but for some reason or another, never posted anything until tonight...but this was worth sharing.
My daughter, who just turned 4...was just recently going through that stage where she'd begin to repeat things she heard other people say...and started picking up on people dropping the "f-bomb". When she was three, she grabbed a mop, went into the kitchen, and announced to her mom that "this floor is fucking dirty"...so we started trying to watch the language a little, and explained to her that "we don't say that word"...which has became her new favorite catch phrase, she's turned into a little profanity cop.
Tonight, my wife and I were curled up in the bed, reliving a little "Richard Pryor Live In Concert" that we keep on the TiVo for those nights where we need a good laugh...my daughter was between us (asleep, or so I thought...)
To make a long story short...Richard was doing his thing, and my daughter sat straight up in the bed, pointed at the TV, and announced "Daddy, we don't say that word."
Before I could come up with an answer...she stopped and looked again, smiled, and said: "But that's ok...because that man sure is funny."
Out of the mouths of babes.
I can't wait until she's old enough for me to pass down my entire collection of the funniest man alive. I got hooked on Mr. Pryor at a young age...used to sneak my parents' vinyl out and play it with the headphones on. Still remember my father catching me with one of them, and giving me a stern look, followed by a smile...like he knew I had just discovered something that I'd keep with me the rest of my life.
Just thought I'd share a great moment in our house, at least---Mr. Pryor, I wish there were adequate words to tell you how much of an impact you've made on my life, and how many great memories you've given.
Mrs. Pryor, thank you for all you do, especially as a protector and champion of Richard's legacy.
Richard Pryor certainly "ain't dead yet, motherfucker..."! and as his work gets passed along from generation to generation, he really never will be.
Be well-
Donovan

I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now; relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!
