A Hip Hop Renaissance?

Post by Anditsdeeptoo »

A lot of us hip hop fans have been dissapointed by the music produced in our community the past few years with a diluted message and formulaic approach centered around party anthems, the crunk revolution, etc. There seems to have been a revival of sorts the past few months with Common and Kanye's latest releases and in my opnion the best album of the year, Little Brother's Minstrel Show. Today two albums were released that reaffirmed this revival. Check out Talib Kweli's Sucka Free Mix CD, and the New Sean Price (of the Boot Camp Clik) CD, Monkey Barz. Also last week, Tajai released a power movement remix CD, also very good music. I'm starting to feel the same way about hip-hop I did as a child in the early 90's. It's a good feeling to be home again.

Anditsdeeptoo,
Things have really not been the same since A Tribe Called Quest broke up.....and it didn't help that The Fugees broke up around the same time...Didn't they realize the game needed them!!

The rap game needs balance is all but you got to be proud to know that Outkast sells millions and the Fugees are coming back soon. Here are a few thoughts on some of the other things:

-[/i]Liked[/i] how Little Brother hooked up "The Minstrel Show" alot but for some reason [/i]loved[/i] their "Chitlin Circuit" mixtape even more!!!

-Got the Talib today ....pretty dope so far better than his last album but I still would like another Black Star album with him and Mos Def before the ten years pass between albums!!!That "Supreme Supreme" song they have got the rewind!!!

-Kanye and Common were dope but hell so was their last albums!!!

-Listened to Black Sheep for the first time in awhile too....good music

- man don't forget cats like MF Doom and Dangermouse, Madlib, and the like that while not mainstream are getting love in the underground!!

Yeah Hip Hop always need to check itself in order to keep fresh. I just checked out "Mincemeat" by MF Doom and Dangermouse, the flow is tight!

Have you heard "Hip Hop 101" by Aasim? when I first heard that I was like "This sounds like some vintage shit!"

Sometimes I get tired of all the "Money, Clothes and Hoes" crap that I hear, I just wanna listen to some tight rhymes with metaphors (Ultramagnetic style)that ignite the mic and push the mind further.

...now where's my money ho? these shoes are old and I only just bought 'em!!! :p

Peace gee

bingolong,

Word.

Does anybody remember UTFO or FOLSOM?

The first had some nice rhymes the latter had some good vocals on the hooks and gangsta west coast beats.

& I really liked Big Dady Kane - sheeeiiittt, his name said it all. -------> Hey, that dude that played Pinky in Next Friday - don't he look like Big Daddy Kane? B-)

There goes those shades again, must mean I am H-I-G-H again!

Peace yall
