keavin,
I have seen this that kid has great chops!!!
But don't have beef with rap music ...I realize there is alot of garbage out there but the great thing about hip-hop music is its endless musical possibilties. And althoough some of these guys don't get the limelight there are alot of guys pushing musicl boundaries in hiphop too!!
I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now; relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!
bingolong,
you are absolutly right about that,I was pretty much emphazising on the fact that theres not many of our kids picking up 'Musical instruments' these days, where'as Iv'e (now 44)been thumping the bass guitar since i was 12yrs old and have toured the world & also played & toured with "bloodstone" "george duke" "stanley Clarke" just to name a few of the big names in the business, and im going back on the road three weeks from today. the thing about playing instruments is that there's more oppurtunities out there for musicians,& i would love to see (more) kids Playing instruments while rapping.
Interesting this thread started. I went off on my nephew last night. He told me he was working on a paper, the topic an African-American hero, he chose Pharrell.
I think the Neptunes are game changing producers and I'm so into N.E.R.D. I need a 12 step program to stop listening to their first CD. But I had to tell my man that Pharrell is NOT a hero.
I made him read about Fred Hampton, and told him there is nothing wrong with being inspired by Pharrell or another artist but I just wanted him to have a better perspective.
Had to vent that sorry...
I'm a hip hop head completely, borderline backpacker but I do believe kids are just accepting whatever BET, MTV, and programmers for Clear Channel are telling them is good.
I want my artist to challenge my ear, feed my mind some.
The hip hop artists I'm really into don't get enough shine for me... I celebrate every time Common has some commercial success, the Roots should sale more, and I think David Banner should be one of the biggest names in all of music. Sorry about this again... got off topic.
That kid can play!!! Makes me feel good to see that.
Press
Now that Johnnie's gone, I guess I should start being nice to the cops.
robfharris,
Yeah the Roots are one of the groups I was thinking about.Great band!!
But Yeah BET has a great commercial for Black History Month talking about recognizing the originators. It was pointing out black filmakers in this case but it's important to go back to the origins thats why I am feeling you keavin
