Richard loved going to the movies...
So do we. Who doesn't like music?

Academy Awards

Post by robfharris »

Terrence Howard is the man!!! Good to see him get some major respect, especially for "Hustle and Flow". But I have for months believed Philip Seymour Hoffman had the Best Actor spot locked down. Great movie "Capote", and he nailed the role.
For Best Picture I'm torn between "Munich", "Crash", and "Capote" and "Good Night and Good Luck". Surprised "Walk The Line" didn't get a nod, but a second year of 'bio-pic' honors probably wasn't going to happen.
I liked Reese Witherspoon in "Walk the Line".
But best of all Jon Stewart the host... that should be nice.

I will not turn from the telecast for any reason until they announce the winner of Best Original Song for a Motion Picture, that is sure to be the most uncomfortable moment of the night. I would love to see someone like Sally Field stand up there and read off the prompter:
"From Hustle and Flow Music & Lyrics by Jordan Houston, Cedric Coleman and Paul Beauregard... IT'S HARD OUT HERE ON A PIMP. Those are your nominees"
I'm going TO LAUGH MY BLACK ASS OFF!!!!!
Now that Johnnie's gone, I guess I should start being nice to the cops.

robfharris,

Good for terrence and Clooney..However I wanted Terrence to get the supporting nod also for Crash..Good line up this year but I hope Crash gets best pic..I saw Brokeback Mountatain and believe me it's not what it appaers to be...I've seen better. It was long, boring and overdramtic. Surpised to see Munich up there..It's an excellent flick but a lot of jews hated it. But my vote is definalty CRASH

robfharris,

what I liked was that during the tributes to those who passed, TMIC wasn't thrown in the middle, but the best for last w/a little extra time.

but should have given TMIC an honorary Oscar. Lady Sings The Blues alone contained incredible performances by all, and breakthrough for RP. Oscar beeeooootchessss.... but I'm not bitter

I will say this was the first Oscars I've watched since The Color Purple was nominated, and watched a little bit when Schindler's List was up for grabs. and damn I wish Don Cheadle had been there. he was one of the primary producers of Crash. 2nd award show he didn't show up for. :(

robfharris,

oh and you definitely gotta give it up to Philip Seymour Hoffman. from Boogie Nights, Talented Mr. Ripley, 25th Hour and a few other greats to Capote, which was awesome work.

but I do think Joaquin Phoenix was great and has been overlooked, but damn not as much as Scorsese. he's like the Susan Lucci of the Oscars
