I am typing this to cool off.
Here is the situation:
My son was involved in a minor finder bender.
He was the middle car, of a three car accident.
No one was hurt and there is very little body damage to all cars.
The car behind him, is responsible for the accident - all drivers admit this.
However, the police are citing my son for the car in front of him, and the last driver is being cited for my son's car, only.
Now the person who caused the whole accident, is an unknown vehicle who at the last minute changed lanes causing everyone to slam on his/her breaks.
Coincidentally, there was a police car RIGHT THERE when this all happened. He made them all pull over to the side of the freeway.
The last car is driven by a girl, in a brand new Land Rover. She was on her cell phone, typing a text message (she admitted this to the police) AND (get this), her licensed where expired.
The police let her leave the scene driving the car that she just caused an accident in!
But made my son sit on the edge of the freeway while the police pampered this girl.

To make a long story short, I battled with the police to have the police report changed (good legal representation).
But I am still very hot about the way that they treated my son.
#1) If it were my son with expired license, would they have let him go? HELL NO! I would have probably been getting a call to bail him out of jail and get the car out of impound.
#2) They made him sit at the edge of the freeway. He could have been HIT by a passing car!!! People get killed on the freeways just changing tires, these days! That fool put my son's life in GREAT danger!!!]

#3) When my son approached the young lady to ask for her information (as I have instructed him to do in these types of cases). The policeman proceeded to yell at my son like he was a common criminal and told if he said one more word, he was going to be handcuffed and sat in the cruiser. My son says "all I was trying to do is obtain her info. This car is in my mom's name and she is gonna want to know all when I call to tell her". The policeman said " ONE MORE WORD OUT OF YOU.....!". My son, clammed up and did as he was told. May he should have kept on talking, at least he would have been safely seated in the cruiser instead of the freeway!
Everytime I think about it, I get very angry. My baby was a victim of racial profiling. And there is nothing that I can do about it.
I have tried to shield him from bullcrap like this all of his life. I taught him early on not to hate due to color of skin. To keep an open mind and learn to like or dislike people as individuals. How can I say this to him any longer?
& My son is mentally scarred by this. He is a very sensitive person. He has compassion where others do not. He just does not understand why this happened to him. He is a very good person, try to do all of the right things. Oh, how I want to take him and hug him until the memory is wiped from his mind. I taught him that the police were our friends, when he was young. I am going to tell you, he sure as hell does not belive that bullshit today.
& Neither do I.
