Re: Your most recent comedy set

NickFlanagan,

Sure, dude--I would love to tell a set story! That's a great idea! I love you! Ooh have they been crazy lately! No, actually they haven't. But, there have been many sets. Four in five days. Not quite shows proper, with two seven minute sets, one ten minute and one fifteen minutes, it's still forty minutes altogether and that ain't bad.

I decided to focus on these two really silly impressions I do this week--I rewrote one, and I resurrected the other one entirely, and alternated between performing them at each of the shorter sets I did. Fixing stuff up and trying it out feels awesome.

One show was at the stoner palace I had played before, and it went better than the last time. This was all relative of course. The last time I did a set there, time froze and nothing occurred. This time, I think I saw somebody blink, which was nice, and proportionately felt like applause. We also did the show in the back outdoor patio, and the cool air hitting my face was a welcome change from the disgusting beery smokiness of most bars and bar-like establishments. The lady who followed me was offended by my gags and voiced this to the audience. Oh well.

Then I went to a cool room run by Ryan Horwood at the Poor Alex theatre, and did this JFK impression that sounds mostly
like the Simpsons mayor, but more British. Somewhere, Vaughan Meader is rolling over in his bed.It went over, somehow. Maybe people were drunk?

Then I played at comedian Adam Mcfawn's birthday roast on saturday and did some mild roasting and another impression.
It went great, mostly thanks to the fact a 'fan' of mine had brought five of her friends, and they were a quarter of the audience. The MC wore a suit, but proceeded to prove that guys in suits are the nuttiest, and got naked and tried to touch every girl in the room's boob. Hilarious? Were he wearing Groucho Marx glasses, yes. Otherwise and in reality, no.

Yesterday was the capper, and I busted both impressions on a n audience of my peers playing with Sub Pop punk/garage band The Catheters at a loft. It was really fun, and I had my drummer out with me, which always makes me feel better because he laughs at my jokes. It was cooly received but enjoyed by some. Somebody told me they enjoyed a punchline that few laugh at, so that made me happy.

Hope this was interesting.

smjmcomic,

You're right! They're such long entries. Still, the reading of them is optional. And they do contain the meaning of life, so I recommend you check em!

cire,

Dude the whole middle part of each entry deals strictly in lactating coeds. I save a bus full of lactating coeds from a burning VD clinic. It's like a greek tragedy with a happy ending. AKA a must read.
