RP - Live in Concert

Post by garfy1974 »

This has just been released on DVD in the UK in a rather nice box set with loads of features. That is nice but not important.

What is, is the fucking epiphany that I have experienced watching it. I've had the RP 'And It's Deep Too' box set for four years and I know them by heart but I've never actually seen them performed. I knew he was good on the page but my god - on the stage, the man was just incredible. Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy et al are bullshitting themselves in their comparisons - not only did he act on stage, he made the stage part of his act like noone ever has since.

Having only ever really listened to Pryor I have focussed on the written element of his comedy. However, having watched RP tonight, I realise that true comedy is all encompassing. The mouth is nothing without the body.

My god - the man is a genius.

garfy1974,

What you said is right on. That is something I love so much about The man, the dude, Richard Pryor; he really could do so much, and I'm only just starting to realise. I finally just got Live In Concert, and it blew me away. He just does it all, and it's awesome. I loved the off-the cuff shit too, and the bit about boxing...it is all so deep. He really leaves me, and I'm sure many others, in hilarified awe.

PS Don't bother looking up hilarified in the dictionary.

No biggie and not to take away from the excellent point you made....... but what kind of special features does the UK box set contain? b.b @.@
I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now; relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!
