He's just never gotten the sort of respect he deserves--that I've seen, anyway. There was a night where there was a *huge* college crowd there. Key would have raged. But he kept getting bumped, and bumped... little punk comics got up before he did. You could just see he was pissed to say the least. Then the crowd left, and there were like four people in the crowd. If that owner *half-way* cared about what went on his club, key would have been up there for a full half hour!
Actually, haven't seen Key in a while. Tell him to go down to the Underground.
jane_haze, I know of a open mic like that..a Christian comic took it over, and he slights comics that have been around, and has a list of people nobody has ever heard of torturing the crowd and won't put good people in to keep the show moving.

I'm from Seattle and have been to the club that Jane is refering to as an Improve Group and I desided not to go up that night, because of the way we were treated.

I like Jennifers answer. Maybe she can write this guy some real life UP_BRING!
The way he treats comics is bad, and it seems no one is completely ammune, except possibly his college age kid comic regulars. I even saw him talking smack about marc maron... in front of marc maron!
I hope Jennifer's letter will improve his demeanor and the way he treats comics... customers even!! I could talk about his punk ass forever, because I just don't get him and understand why he is such a bastard.
That Old Hippie Chick,
All those places are bit too far, but I might be able to do a greyhound trip or something down to oregon. One thing about living in the city, is you get used to not having a car... until road trips come up!
Is that a "tribble run"... I've heard of the wenatchee, pasco, and moses lake run talked about before and how brutal those rooms can be. All I can say is, may the farce be with you!
You aren't planning to be in SF this weekend are you?
That Old Hippie Chick, I love medford to! Unfortunetly I can't do alot of road gigs because of the day job, but a couple of guys have took me with them to open for treble shows..maybe one day that guy will know who I am by god. Yeah bar owners in general not just comedy club owners don't seem to have alot of respect for comics, maybe because there is so damned many of us.
Murphdogg,
...don't want to take it off course to long but it's been dead on the site all this time tonight and then come midnite eastern time when i am ready to log off all you motherfuckas wanna pop up and talk shit....."we gone pitch a bitch after at 12:00"
I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now; relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!
I know how you feel, Over here, we're 7hrs ahead of the West Coast. Some of you ain't even gone to bed yet and I'm fucking getting up to go to work!!
Back to the subject..... it's interesting to hear about the behind-the-scenes bullshit that you comics face. Comedy at its highest level should break down boundaries and not perpetuate them. I hope that jen's letter kick's ass!!
Comedy club owners are just like everyone else... so there's dickheads in the bunch. I'll just say, if you have a guilty conscience or discriminate or pick on people who clearly are too diffident to defend themselves, then don't call me. A second time. I'll take your money the first, but the second time... um... I'll start feeling bad based on my high horse morals.
jane_haze, of the two comedy club owners I do know, both are actually cool, and one's given me advice when I was booking a room. I've ran into more attitude from people running rooms that aren't owners.
