Jennifer,
This is a reply to a story written by a novice reporter on the conditions of
Cavel, the slaughterhouse which just rebuilt and opened in DeKalp Illinois.
Legislation to halt their opening was narrowly defeated, and the fight goes
on. Your posts can help by making people aware. Thank you
Here is the reply:
I find it disturbing that you quoted me on an issue we never discussed.
I did not speak to you about the transportation issue regarding horses
traveling to slaughter, and would never have made such an inaccurate
statement.
Chickens are not transported in rigs anything like those of cattle and hogs
or
horses for that matter. This statement YOU made, is factually incorrect.
You made at best, a half hearted attempt to do an accurate, unbiased story
particularly since you never even bothered to call me until you were minutes
away from going to press with this. Had you thought this out better, you
could
have actually written a good story based in fact, rather than an
"advertisement"
for Cavel which is based in lies and inaccuracies.
If you would like to do a real story, one that is based in fact, not
inaccuracies and more lies from Mr. Tucker, perhaps you should go to the
plant, film
the trailers arriving, film the horses being unloaded, film the horses being
whipped and beaten into the kill chute, film the horses being inhumanely
slaughtered. Be certain you listen to the screams of terror coming from the
horses. I
have been a professional horse woman for over 30 years, and never have I
heard such horrific sounds come from a horses body in all my life as I had
just
passing by Cavel one day last week while the rear unloading door to the
plant
happened to be open.
The real story here will never be told until someone has courage enough to
step up to the plate and tell the story through the eyes of the horses in
that
plant.
Sincerely,
Gail Vacca
