They have absolutely nothing about Redd Foxx, Lenny Bruce, Mr. Pryor, George Carlin, Sam Kinison, Bill Hicks or even Chris fuckin Rock and it hasn't even been that long since Rock blew up so you'd think they'd at least have a little bio about him [Font size=4 face=i color=red]WHAT THE FUCK???!!!![/font]

If it weren't for "The Dave Chappelle Show", "Tough Crowd", "Insomniac with Dave Attell", "Crank Yankers", "South Park" and "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart", the fuckin network would be off the air. That's a damn SHAME when 6 half hour shows carry a 24 hour channel

You know what I wish? I wish the producers of Crank Yankers and South Park would team up with Chappelle, Stewart, Quinn and Attell and fuckin UNIONIZE ])and refuse to work until the executives start giving props to the comedians who made it possible for their channel to exist in the first place!!!

They should set aside AT LEAST an hour of programming each week for The Comic Greats. I don't care if it's doing a biography type of thing, showing one of their old stand up specials or just showing old interviews they've done over the years. I would LOVE to see the 3 interviews Mr. Pryor did with Barbara Walters! I've never seen any of them I'm sure there are also interviews with Lenny, Sam, Bill and all of the others who helped pave the way that are just lying around gathering dust somewhere while you and I are left watching corny ass shows like "I'm with Busey"

i think their database more or less covers workin comedians... and the likes that appear on the network now... but not 100% sure.

also... i disagree. pretty much all i watch is comedy central. and i watch it a lot. there are other shows besides the ones you mentioned. for example reno 911 is genious. and i love watching all the comedy central presents specials, and even the premium blend/comic groove type shows with quick sets from different comics.

also... shows they had recently that i enjoyed watching were travel sick, and not to mention it has totally caught me up on the past 10 years of sketch comedy from all the mad tv, snl, and even kids in the hall re runs. i even watch duckman, dilbert, kid notorious and the animated side of things.

so i disagree, i think there is a lot of good programming on the network. shiyet... i even saw mr. pryor in brewsters millions the other day.

not to correct you or anything... but its not a 24 hour network. they go off air every night at 4am. and start programming @ 8am. i think they start programming at 7am on saturdays.

i agree though, they could do a lil more to pay homage to the godfathers of comedy... but in my opinion... for a cable network, that doesnt have as much funding as others... i think they are doing a great job.

Comedy Central has some of the best shows but as far as giving props to the great comics who paved they way for us they come up well short. Damn Shame

As always, I love your passion -and i think you are right-CC did The first Mark Twain show with RIchard winning the award, they also bought a show, produced in ENgland called "Heros of Black Comedy"-of which RIchard was a part,not very good show.
That withstanding,CC does a terrible job-I agree with you-about acknowledging the ones who went before!!! love-jenny

Oh I thought the "The Mark Twain" award show aired on NBC or CBS I didn't know CC aired it I wonder if they aired it cause they were the first network it was offered to or b/c they actually saw how inportant it was for the Art of stand up to be recoginzed? With the crap they produce, I'm thinking it was probably just b/c they were offered to air it 1st but I can't say for sure.
I vaguely remember seeing "The Heros of Black Comedy" on "Trio" I didn't know CC aired it first thanks for telling me. I know I really vented Jenny but it's been along time coming. I so appreciate having this forum, one DEDICATED to Stand Up as the ART form that it should be instead of the $marketable$ industry it has become to do so. THANK YOU!!!

well, lemme ask you this. how much time do you think a network should devote to such acknowledgements?


espn doesnt run specials on babe ruth everyday. how does it hold different?

and dont get me wrong... i love richard, and the other mentioned comics more than i can explain... they have my utmost respect. im just trying to hold a debate from both sides point of view.

Here's where I gotta disagree with you. Look at the programing on CC - there's so many old shows, the Critic, etc. Then there's the new comics doing stand-up. What there isn't is classic stand-up. Why not? There's certainly a lot out there.

Look, I'm good, I have an ego, but when I did stand-up stand-up back in the day, they cut the clip 1000 ways, used it on every theme show they could imagine, and ran it damn near 24/7. Why not mix in the masters?

Look at Comic Remix - they cut up pieces of specials, etc. into theme segments. "Relationships" "Money" "Sex" "Politics" - you mean to tell me that allong side Lewis Black, Margrat Cho, and the bevy of new comics there's no room for classic clips by Pryor, Carlin, Woody Allen, Mort Sahl, Lenny Bruce, Bill Hicks, hell - even Jack Benny.

Between HBO concerts, Letterman, Leno, Midnight Special, Sullivan, Mike Douglas, and on and on the spots are just sitting in a vault, wasted.

Unlike sports where the outcome of the event lessens the drama, this stuff grows stronger with age. It's like a Picasso, or a Mozart Symphony - it's art and should be seen by the public.

The problem comes in rights fees and residuals, etc. That's the true reason why no network will use classic comedy clips.

yeah, i totally agree with you, and you answered my next question before i got to the end of yoru post.

which of course is...

because i dont think that people who make decisions at comedy central simply "do not like" pryor and others mentioned.

it is a shame though... having some of the greatest performances of an art we all care so much for, being locked up and kept from us. you could go as far as to say its total bullshit. because it is. but i dont think hating comedy central for something that is more politics and money than they can just deal with is going to help anything.

im gonna keep on watchin comedy central. i enjoy the network. and besides... what network has qaulity programming all of the time? name one and i will laugh in your face.... because simply put - none at all do.

There is another dimension to this as well. Besides the cost, there's also the return on the investment. If comedy Central promotes Carlin or Pryor there doing so just for that special. Just for that set of ratings. However if they build up a new generation of stars, they have bankable draws for the next X-number of years.

It's all about money in one form or another.
