Richard loved going to the movies...
So do we. Who doesn't like music?

Top Ten Movie Moments!

Post by dougdigitalpro »

I was watching "The Blues Brothers" the other night and I've seen this movie a thousand times and I never get tired of the "I Need You" concert sequence. It's the best! So, from that, I thought I would do my top ten movie moments, meaning moments in film that you always get jazzed over when you see them, no matter how many times.
This is not definitive and up for debate, but it's what I could think of off the top of my head:

10) End Credits (Splash): That Rita Coolidge song always gets me and the ending is so dreamlike. Always look forward to sitting through this.

9) County Jail Sequence (Stir Crazy): Had to put a Pryor flick in here and this one is my favorite. Two comic genuises taking it to the hilt. Classic!

8) Tony Kills Frank (Scarface): It's one of the great guilty pleasures in cinema to see a man get his comeuppance for doing another man wrong. Tony throws out some of his best lines in this sequence: Mel: You can't kill a cop!
Tony: Whoever said you was one!
7) Hand Jive Dance Sequence (Grease): The whole film rocks but this number is the group at their partying best. You can feel the excitement ooze off the screen watching this.

6) Opening Credits (Superman): I always get abuzz watching this. One of the great opening sequences that lets you know you're about to go on a helluva ride!

5) Michael vs. Kay (Godfather 2): When Kay drops the bomb about not wanting his child and she had an abortion, we see two great actors milking every drop out of their performance. Great acting and a real dramatic turnaround of character.

4) Rocky's Second Run (Rocky 2): The first time was great, but it was personal. On this trip he takes hundreds of children with him as he goes from the mountain into the stars. Magic!

3) Han Gets Frozen (ESB): Our heroes go down for the count and can't do anything about it. One of the few sequences in cinema I believe that was executed on all fronts (acting, directing, visual, music, editing) perfectly.

2) Jake & Elwood In Concert (The Blues Brothers): One of the great staged concert sequences of all time. Two actors at the top of their game and they're loving every minute of it. Pure excitement!

1) Luke Destroys the Death Star (SW:A New Hope)
You know I was gonna give it to Star Wars, bingo! :D You go on the journey with Luke Skywalker and wonder if he can really blow this thing up. It's a pure adrenaline rush and a perfect marriage of movie & music combined to give the ultimate thrill ride. No movie can match the pure fun of watching this sequence go down. Not even the five movies based on it since. (Well, we'll find out shortly with Ep. 3)

What are your favorite movie moments? B-)

astonamous,
Man, once & for all I gotta go get a copy of Dr. Zhivago!
You're the third person I heard rave about this movie like that. As much as I'm a movie conniesuer, somehow this film keeps missing me. I am a HUGE fan of Lean's other masterpiece "Lawrence of Arabia". I got off into that when I was around 22 and have been hooked ever since. One time I even dragged a girl I was dating to the Fox theatre to see it when they showed it over a weekend. I'm into THIS Lean film as much as I haven't been in Zhivago, which is none. I tried to watch Bridge Over the River Kwai and couldn't get into it really. But Lawrence struck a nerve in me. I think it's the whole feeling like an outcast thing and knowing you're destined for something other than what you're doing angle. That's something I defintely relate to. But I'm gonna go try to get a copy of this from somewhere and check it out.

dougdigitalpro,

"Empire Strikes Back":When Luke Skywalker loses his hand and finds out that Darth Vader was his father. Before that I had assumed that Obi Wan was his father, through my toddler mind for a loop!!!8-o

"Which Way Is Up?":I had to be about 2 years old when I saw "Which Way Is Up" at the movie theater. The only thing I could remember was the movies ending when Richard was walking down the street.I didn't understand at that age what was going on but it still made a strong impression. The way Rich was strutting with it and that funky baseline from the theme music had me thinking "THIS MOTHERFUCKER IS COLD!!"

"Bustin Loose":The scene when he is walking through the woods talking shit to himself (".....I'm Mrs. Braxton's Favorite son!Joe Baby, Joe motherfucking Braxton...)and the Klan walks up behind him has to rank up there with the "we bad" scene in Stir Crazy!!!

"Planet of The Apes"(1968)/"The 6th Sense"/"Citizen Kane":The endings of those movies just made great revalations. The endings of "Planet of The Apes" and "The 6th Sense" made me want to rewatch them again even though I wasn't initially impressed with the movies as I was checking them."Kane" was a good overall movie that I would suggest a remake for if didn't think Hollywood would fuck it up.

"Godfather Pt.2"- Poor Frado......the boat scene at the end.I felt for him even though he was fuck up but he was the oldest.(John Cazale was great in pretty much everything I've seen him in before his death :( )

A few more to go...............B-)

dumbass,
My two cents in no paticular order;
1)The closing scene and credits in a James Bond movie(I forget the name)but there is a Chineese Boat sailing away to the song "All Time High"
2)The movie "Help" where the Beatles are riding their bikes in a circle and John utters the line "Not if I get the boot in first"
3)The song "Amen" in "Lillies Of The Fields" at the end of the movie.
4)"My Bodyguard" when Matt Dillon gets his ass kicked in the final scene by the nerd.
5)"Stir Crazy" when Richard Pryor lites the match off the chest of the big dude with the cowboy hat.
6)Halloween the original...the scariest movie ever made.
7)The horse head scene in the "The Godfather"
8)"A hard Days Night" the train scene when John Lennon hold the Coke bottle to his nose, blocks a nostril and snorts.
9)"Star Wars" The first light sabre fight between Darth and Obie one Kenobe.
10)"In Cold Blood" Robert Blake played one of the villians then and maybe now.

bingo,
No remakes of Citizen Kane! That movie is fine just the way it is, even as old as it is.

billyboy,
I love "A Hard Days Night" also. Saw it on TV once when I was about 7 and I was I gone on it. I was glad that they finally put it on DVD and I went and saw it when it was back in theatres. I love when John says, "Cheeky!" It just sounds like some cool English shit to say. :D
Also like the running joke, "He's very clean, isn't he?" Found out on the DVD the joke derived from an episode of "Steptoe & Son" which the old guy in the film played the character Fred Sanford was based on when they used the show for the premise of "Sanford & Son". Which starred the man who was Richard Pryor's favorite comedian.

Hmm, may have to start a thread on the 7 Degrees of Richard Pryor. :D

I knew it some reason why I liked this film so much!

dougdigitalpro,
He also says "You're a Swine"
You can see by that movie that the phrase "Living in a fish bowl" is true.

dougdigitalpro,
Yeah I agree.I think I felt that way about "Kane" b/c the story and filming process seemed so modern.Alot of thoses scenes and the set-ups were so ahead of there time.Like the newsreel footage that had Kane being wheeled around Xanadu and the shots like going into the club and different other settings.... B-)
