i passed through salt lake city one time. nice looking clean city... but creeped me out kinda the same way children of the corn did. i left with demonic speed.
bingolong, I sent Richard the second and third verses of Doo Rags from the lost tapes, because even though I'm a huge Nas fan, when I first heard that song I couldn't believe the power of the lyrics. I can't tell you how happy I am that it meant something to Richard.
Gareth,
You know that's what brought me to this site in the first place.Hell I was satisfied just checking out the old site every couple of days to see Richard and Jennifer's entries. The boards are just an added bonus!!
Nick,
Yeah that boy Nas got some lyrics!!!
I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now; relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!
Just read the new R.P diary and it really encouraged me because I have a drummer backing my comedy right now, and it's totally fun and because I play a lot of rock shows, helps get attention from a talkative crowd. Can't wait to find out how he became a comedian...
Oh, and incidentally, Bingolong, how long have you been rhyming for and who do you like in hip-hop?
NickFlanagan,
Been doing hip-hop (beats and rhymes)since my early teens in the late 80's.My fav's are "A Tribe Called Quest" and I'd like to think my style is a mix of ATCQ, and N.W.A. but on that dirty south crunk vibe.(If that is even possible!!)
Hey I know you are up on the re-release of Nas's first album "Illmatic" !!That is a classic!!I've been had it but depending on the bonuses Imma have to have this version too!!!
Yeah can't wait to check Rich's next entry either!!That's that shit!!!:)

bingolong, that's really cool. I'm a music nerd and 1994-96 basically made me a hiphop fanatic for life, so you know that I'm up on the Illmatic re-release, which I'm gonna buy too, considering my copy is a ratty tape I bought back when the album was new. The liner notes are long-gone and all the letters have faded into nothingness on the tape--I'm such a nerd I'll probably try to get it on vinyl.
Your style sounds solid--glad to hear the crunk is there. I actually love southern rap, from The Geto Boys to UGK to DJ Screw--it's all weird and great--but sometimes ridiculously gangsta, and yet somehow believably so. Lately I've actually been listening to Cee-Lo's new album--it's really well-done soulful hip-hop.
Hey speaking of NWA--I google NWA and Pryor and found this quote about them: Like a lot of kids, Cube was a huge fan of the comedian Richard Pryor. Cube's parents had Pryor's records, which in addition to being hilarious were exceptionally profane. Cube listened to the albums when his parents left the house. He started writing similarly obscene rap parodies of popular songs.
The main example of Cube's parodies is his famous changing of "My Adidas" to "My Penis". Without Pryor, that historical "blueing" of a popular song wouldn't have happened. Yay!
NickFlanagan,
The years of '87 to about'89,'91 and then that 94'era.I can tell you are a "head" when you start talking about vinyl.
I think it's good to have varying taste in anything but especially in hip hop because there are so many possibilities to what can be done with it.My favorite producer right now is a cat named JayDee (not Janet Jackson's main squeeze but J. Dilla)though it is far from my south vibe I love that laid back shit too.It don't matter too me as long as it's good music.I hate when people try to put stuff in a box.
The new Cee-Lo is good and I also loved his last album especially the cut "Follow Me".
I posted somewhere else how back in the days me and boys would get old Richard records and look for where hip hop artists would sample from him. That used to be fun.NWA were good for getting Rich samples back in the day.
