What is your favorite Richard Pryor Performance (Movie,Standup whatever)

Post by bingolong »

(Ive posted this somewhere else but thought that it deserved it's own topic.)
For me my favorite has to be Bustin Loose. The movie has lots of comedy but also a great amount of dramitic/emotional scenes like when Richard deals with the children's issues. He also got to do some character's (during the Pyramid scheme). That scene when he is walking through the woods talking shit to himself (".....I'm Mrs. Braxton's Favorite son!Joe Baby, Joe motherfucking Braxton...)and the Klan walks up behind him has to rank up there with the "we bad" scene in Stir Crazy. This movie had everything (plus Paul Mooney and and a hot Roberta Flack soundtrack). But sometimes I wonder what ever happened to those bad ass kids...........?
As far as standup it would have to be between "...Was It Something I Said...." and "That N*gger's Crazy".Good thing I'm not a comedian because I ripped off Rich so bad with those two albums in Highschool I got the "Most Wittest" superlative when I graduated!!!

bingolong,
Live in concert really did it for me. I saw it when I was like 18 years old. Stuttering chinese man, the boxer beating himself up, Ali, horny monkeys, Macho Man, low-running, it's all hilarious.

Lately my favorite bit has been from bicentennial. 'you remember the revolution? we lost.' talking about civil rights, and funny at the same time.

Tough decision... there's a lot of timeless material to choose from. I'd probably have to go with "Craps"(After Hours), with "Bicentennial Nigger" a close runner up. I love the After Hours and Craps Game tracks on the Craps album. Each album/video is unique and have much to offer though. Hard to chose a favorite. Gotta have the whole collection. I can't wait for the Richard Pryor Show dvd to come out.

Yeah I'm thinking Laff put out "Black Ben" too so that will fall right on time!
