Christmas Spirit
For me this year has been stressful and it feels like it has gotten worse the closer it has gotten to christmas.
Today I had to go get a grab bag gift for work with my mind stressed over the tightness of my pocket, the gift I had to get and my friend telling me how cheap and fucked up I was for spending 13.00 at bath and body works, when I should of spent $20 and when was I going to get her gift. (I have a very selfish friend who always has to be corrected)
On our way home she's yapping and I suddenly this National Lampoons Christmas Vacation House but it was actually nicer. LOL.
So, my friend turns down the block to get to the house and we park and get out and we're walking around this person's yard and there was a little crowd but everybody was pretty quiet.
I'm watching some of the kids pulling this cord that came from the roof of the house from santa's sleigh down to the yard and as you pulled on it there were little packages attached that you could take as gifts.
Just the whole atmosphere with the people standing around and we're all complete strangers and we're talking like we've known each other for years about how beautiful the house was and you could just feel the real spirit of christmas.
This was what is was truly about not the stress that I was feeling over other people and them hounding me about stupid stuff. Then my friend goes I wonder what there light bill must be like and this guy in the back goes yea, I feel like we should help them. So, we each gave them a couple of bucks to help them with the light bill. Then later on my friend apologized for how she acted earlier.

gypsyeyes76,
I'm with you. I haven't been feeling it either. Well, I was about to get into it, but now me & my old lady are kinda on the outs. It's tough to put up a tree when all you can think of is "Christmas Just Ain't Christmas..." & "What Do The Lonely Do At Christmas"
Oh well, Christmas is coming one way or another. And now I have to get fuckin' gifts for everybody. Bah-Humbug!

astonamous,
Tom Lehrer's "Christmas Carol" is in order. It's a great song by an old Stephen lynch-ish stand up from the 50s. Only the guy was smart and his jokes contain irony and such.
This Christmas I get to look forward to work. Yay. well, at least it's money.
Later.

jane_haze,
You could alway spend Christmas at your Dad's place...
OK, maybe that's a bad idea...

gypsyeyes76,
I am so with u on the Christmas Spirit,my husband and I will be sharing our first Christmas with our 6month old(1st child for both), and he is a radio DJ who will be working Christmas day!
I am pretty upset, and I can't believe his boss is such a f*$#!&* jerk... This is such a special day ruined by a corporate republican company... Happy Holidays, to everyone and I will be sure to send my husband with some coal for his boss' big desk!

gypsyeyes76,
I'm tryin' so hard to get into the whole x-mas thing...I got 4 kids ranging from 10-15, 2 boys 2 girls..and I'm 34...I'm still a fuckin kid myself...shit, I still want toys! But what is cool is that my oldest daughter wanted drums!(yea!) and is taking lessons...so I got her a 5 piece set and set it up in the studio last night...My wife asked.."why are you putting it together now for?" I said..."shit, if I start now, it may be done by x-mas!" My wife wants the 1 million dollar bra from Victoria's Secrets..For that much money, it better come with some fine ass titties already in it!...I got slapped...

funkychicken,

I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now; relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!

Re: Christmas Spirit
gypsyeyes76,
I used to have a friend like yours... For Christmas and then her birthday I made donations in her name to the SPCA and gave her the card... I didn't have to worry about buying her anything the next year..
I never really get into Christmas. I do the Christmas thing for my kid of course, and put up a decent front, and I like the excuse to buy brothers stuff... (the older one fusses if I spend money on him the rest of the year) but growing up Christmas just sucked. Oh, I got a bunch of gifts and all, but the house had to be cleaned from top to bottom before the decorations went up after Thanksgiving, (The Saturday after. ALL of them. Perfectly.) and my anal retentive mom wouldn't allow anyone to see the house dirty so the only girl in the family (moi) had to do it...
Regular cleaning (pulling out the furniture and vaccuming behind, vaccuming curtains, dusting baseboards, etc 2 x week) wasn't good enough. The woodwork had to be washed, baseboards washed, curtains down and dry cleaned, rehung...
Then after the cleaning and decorating came the cooking... New Year's party for friends, family and business (tax write off) I was slapped and cussed more at Christmas than any other time of the year... Then there was the party itself, which was ok, I guess... started drinking at them when I was 12, so that took the edge off. Then there was the cleaning up after, taking down the decorations and the recleaning the house.
My brother asks why I never "do the house up really pretty like Mom did?"
HA!

Re: Christmas Spirit
Oh... The Party (in caps of course) couldn't be catered because the one year it was the food was awful (in her opinion) so the only ones who could do it right were us...
Heavy hors d'oeuvres for between 150 and 200 people.
