Dear Howard,
Richard and I caught a recent show of yours in which you were addressing the very serious topics such as censorship, the religious Right’s control of government, etc. To put it simply, we loved it – and applaud you for your position! Especially now that it is clear that you are being targeted unfairly by the Right for political gain.
You speak for all of us who believe in freedom of speech and every other freedom that Bush is trying to destroy.
We love you, Howard, and know that we will be listening to you for many years to come. You will triumph in these latest travails.
All our love,
Jennifer Lee and Richard Pryor (Richard and I remarried three years ago)

Re: HOWARD STERN WE APPLAUD YOU!
Jennifer,
There was a time when you could speak your mind, and the only three things that could happen to you were, you would get beat up, or worse people would realize how truly stupid you really are, or the least likely thing was that some people would agree with you.
Voltaire was some French guy that made a statement a long time ago and the statement stuck with me. I don’t know who this Voltaire guy was, and I don’t know what he ever did, but I will remember him for as long as I live just because of that one statement of his.
His statement is and I quote, “I may not agree with what you say, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it.”
That’s a pretty powerful statement and it reminds me a lot of the First amendment of the United States Constitution which is supposed to guarantee free speech.
Here’s another one of my favorites, “Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me.”
My mother drummed the phrase into my head because as a child, like many others, I was picked on.
Words are words and that’s it, nothing more and sometime words are worth even less.
Some words originate in the brain and some come from the heart, but sometimes words come from who knows where, and those are usually the words that come out of your mouth with no thought process and right after they’re spoken you scratch your head and ask yourself, “Did I just say that?”
I think people are beginning to think too much like computers. People are not perfect and neither are their machines.
Computers crash and they freeze and they have fatal errors and so do people.
Some words can cut you to the bone while other words can inspire you and lift you to great heights.
It’s what happens after the words are spoken that is important, because sometimes that’s where the trouble lies.
If some one says something you don’t like, you retaliate. But it is important how you retaliate. Some people retaliate with words and some people with silence, but there are others who retaliate with action, like with guns, knives, lawyers, or even wars.
I do understand that people can’t scream the word “FIRE’ in a crowded theater because of safety issues, but did some one actually do that and did people die trying to escape?
There are all kinds of hypocrisy at work in this country.
I remember hearing about a courthouse that had a sculpture of the Ten Commandments in the lobby and the Supreme Court ordered a judge to remove it and he refused.
I think the judge was charged with obstruction and he lost his job. The state finally removed the offending sculpture but here is the hypocrisy. The State wanted to keep the separation of “state and religion.” Okay that’s fine, but what day are all of the courthouses closed?
They are all closed on Sunday, the Holy Day.
I also heard about the atheist who wanted the word “God” removed from the Pledge of Allegiance and his case went all the way to the Supreme Court. If that man doesn’t believe in God why would he care if the word God is used?
Fifteen minutes of fame and that’s it.
One of the weirdest things that I can remember about the use of words was when we were going in to Afghanistan to battle with the Taliban and the name of the operation included the word “Crusade” I believe and the use of that word offended some people.
So what did we do? The government changed the name to “Enduring Freedom” and then we bombed the hell out of them.
Everyone I know has an explanation of how people came to inhabit this planet. Some of them believe in the “Garden of Eden” and some of them believe that we came from apes.
I remember hearing, that if someone believes in the Garden of Eden then how can they believe in same sex marriages? Because if there were an Adam and an Adam, or an Eve and an Eve alone in the Garden of Eden, how could they go forth and multiply.
Another one said, if you believe in the Ape theory then why do we still have apes and nothing biologically between us like a half man and half ape? Where is the missing link? They keep saying they found the Missing Link, but I haven’t seen it have you?
I have a few friends who don’t believe either scenario, they think aliens put us here and that’s why we have “sightings” because the aliens are coming back every once in a while to check on the crops.
Who is right?
Who cares?
I don’t, because those are those people’s opinions and they have a right to express them.
I will not give you my opinion though, because I am not stupid.
I don’t want to get sued!!!!
Sorry to be so long winded
