D'Angelo
Not sure how many D'Angelo fans are in here, but did anyone else see the video of him going to court today? Dude has to be damn near 300 pounds now. 5 years ago, dude did a music video butt ass naked and as ripped as he was then, he was in his right.
D'Angelo has made some of the best music in this generation and the only artist that actually lived up to and earned the comparisons to Marvin Gaye. But it seems just like Marvin, he has his demons as well. Hopefully, John Mayer is still trying to lock D'Angelo in a studio and pound out some more classics.
In the words of D'Angelo... Shit, Damn, Muthafucka!!!

Now that Johnnie's gone, I guess I should start being nice to the cops.

robfharris,
Yeah and he is due for an album this year......since he only drops an album every five years (1995,2000,......I really liked both of them very much by the way!!)
Yeah I heard he was actually kind of chunky when he did his first album and just wore clothes to cover it up and then slimmed down for his next one so he get "fresh" in that video!!But I saw a mugshot of him and he has blew up!!
I remember an award in about 2000,2001 that a young (but still bootylicious) Beyonce was hosting and she was excited about seeing D'Angelo!!Boy I hope he took advantage of that before he blew up!!!
Yo I read about this but where did you see the footage?

I went to Zimbabwe. I know how white people feel in America now; relaxed! Cause when I heard the police car I knew they weren't coming after me!

bingolong,
Saw it on Celebrity Justice, just saw it again 30 minutes ago. Yeah playboy blew up!! I heard he use to be a little chunky back in the day too.
I wish he was releasing a new disc. I'm sure he has enough recorded to piece together a project. I remember him and
?uestlove put together a group and recorded a lot of tracks back in '02. It was supposedly a funk band, like George Clinton and Funkadelic (the first sign the boy was on that stuff).
In last October's Esquire John Mayer wrote an "Open Letter to D'Angelo"; he pretty much said music needed him and he was willing to help him in the studio.
I feel for the brother, his first project out the box is on par with "What's Going On?" "Songs in the Key of Life" and "Here My Dear", can you imagine making the album of a generation on your first try. Plus everyone wanted him to repeat it. "Brown Sugar" was so good, people have yet to appreciate "Voodoo". I know you're into music Bingo, have you peeped that on half the tracks on "Voodoo", the bassline raps around the beat instead just playing along with the beat... SICK! I pick up my bass a lot of times and try to figure it out, but I'm not on that level... yet.
Not sure if he got any Beyounce... he was still thick in baby momma drama with Angie Stone.

bingolong,
He was prince without the 37 bad albums between the good ones. It sucks he lacks motivation, he could have been the Marvin Gaye of our generation, now he just looks like ODB(RIP)

robfharris,
Cool it comes on in 5 minutes on WGN I will check it out!!!
Yeah that first album was very much up there and had some good music on it!!!Solid straight up good music!!I am going to have revisit this album in the ride tommorow!!
The second album got so much play and analysis that my girl at the time was very much tired of the album and she was initially as excited about the album as I was.I remember seeing a making of doc of that album and Eric Clapton was so amazed by the selections he was hearing from the album he was like "is the whole thing like this!!"8-o
I missed that issue of Esquire but from the apearances and the last few things I have heard Mayer on (he did something on this song called "Go" for Common)I am going to have to check him out.
Anyway I knew things were going sour for DAngelo when
?uestlove took him off the Roots "Break You Off" and put Musiq on it instead then ?uestlove said he wasn't going to mess with him anymore. The D'Angelo version of The Roots tune was already out on the net too and then they switched it up!!
